I wanna add my custom avalanche.wad to my 24/7 ava server. So how can I do that w/out folks playing the same wad on other servers (meaning the ava wad would download to their dod folder. So every ava map would use my wad on different servers)?
Thanks guys:sheep:

this is more a server question than mapping but..

i believe the answer is u cant. if they download the wad file, those textures will be applied to any other server they join, unless u edit your own version of avalanche or whatever.frowned upon.

actually wouldn't you just beable to use ripents, open the file it makes, change the path that tells the bsp where to reference the wad file and them import the ents back into the bsp.
The wad file would have to have the exact same names as the ones in the original.

But doing this version would mean people would have to download a 'new' version of Ava and it would overright their originial.

Simplist way would be to just use the wad on your end and not the server to change the textures.

Actully ... this should work.

1) Re-name your custom wad.

2) use ripent to point to this wad.

3) have a res file pointing to this new wad.

4) Up load you new map and wad to your server. (Note you will overwrite your original map doing this.)

This should work for the server. When people connect they should get the reference to the wad from the server, not their local version of the map. They will download and use the custom wad for the map, as defined in res file.

They dissconnect and join a server with the regular map, they get the reference to the original wad and use that for the map.

NOTE: This needs testing. I suggest you test/backup before overwriting any files on your server. I always test on a dedicated server on my own PC.

As for being frowned upon, stay away from my map downloads then ... :kitty:

I've seen other servers with custom models that didn't affect me in other servers. What's you server ip?
