anyone ever get this error even though steam is completely shut down? and yes, i checked the winxp task manager for the steam thread and it was not running.

The only time I get that error is when steam or DoD is running.

Maybe ask Nem's?

i get this quite a bit, half the time i actually close steam and try open it again and it says a copy of steam is allready running, so i have to kill the process in task manager. Check if steam.exe is still running and if it isnt im blank ;S

it happens to me with the latest version and previous versions,
usually i have to reboot to fix it.
Just a thought but maybe its a memory problem?

Hey Izuno, use Jeds new HLMV 1.3

It has a built in gcf explorer and a few other half-life pakages are supported as well.
