so is there any way to get entities to move with the train then, or by them selves?

For a model, you could create an animation. For brushes, tie them to func_train.

so basically i cant tie a func_breakable to a train.

basically, what i want is a moving tank that stops when shot with a piat. :(

i guess i need to think of a way around it.

Moving tank that stops when shot with a piat? Impossible.

A func_breakable is a func_breakable, not a func_train.
In other mods, yes. Not in this one. Not anymore. The code was changed. They prefer overhead icons instead.
Sorry bud. I appreciated tanks too.

Hi, i know your good with moving trains, like in ur map with the tank, can u tell me the basics of how u do that, and can it still be done since s1 told me the "move with" function no longer works in dod.

thx for any help.

Thanks for the compliment, although i never considered myself like a good mapper.
I assume you read correctly This is not possible anymore

If you want to see how it was done in dod 1.0 or earlier, make a search on "blitzkrieg" as i released a rmf in the mapping forum. Pretty useless unless you are running dod 1.0 eh?.
If you can't find it contact me on irc I'll send you other maps with tanks (mythic, blitzkrieg, boot_camp). All i can do. Sorry.

Anyway, it was do-able but really hard and long. Dod killed the movewith property, a great half-life feature. It may be back in HL2 though ;)

Krug

what you can do is have a (brush-built) tank move along a predetermined path, and stop at a certain point where there is an invisible breakable already (would have to be the other side of a fence or somewhere the players cant get to) then when the breakable is destroyed, the tank (func_train) teleports to an out-of-sight spot and a func_wall_toggle appears (resembling the destroyed tank)
you could also have the 'tank' firing at a certain position occasionally until it is destroyed

Not only did they removed the feature in v1.2, it was already buggy from v1.0 onwards. If you wished moveWith to work, you must go back to the betas (ie. DoD beta 3.1). Obviously, there wasn't any bazookas or special-breakables then, so it's pretty pointless.

So, follow greenhorn's method above.

In my opinion, I would rather have stationery tanks or initally animating tanks that enter the scene dramatically (eg. ramming through the hedgerow like in Brothers In Arms game E3 demo). There will be a slope defilade to protect most infantry from getting blown immediatley to bits. Then, it would be fun to fire bazooka rockets across such a far distance...
