From Tommy14
'texture axis perpendicular to face'
For some reason a texture has been rotated on the face of a brush until it is "stick out of" the brush face. Causes are usually, but not always: vertex manipulation, clipping the brush, carving the brush, importing a prefab, and sometimes rotating/skewing a brush with more than 6 sides - like a cylinder - without texture lock(tl) on. You could try map problems to see if it finds the error - sometime it does, but more usually you have to hunt.

really delet that brush and rebuild it

Ignore the no player start DOD doesnt use that, its from Half-life

Just press the "Fix Problem" button on the texture perpendicular to axis. It should fix it for you. It would cause compile errors, but isn't hard to fix as you don't even need to search it down. *but* it's a good idea to check the area it came from if possible to see if it's altered your texture at all (consistancy's sake.)

This might help...Think of a brush this way...you can never...ever...never...have one face of a brush "see" another face on the same brush...they must all angle away from each other.

The clipping tool can be your great friend and the evil empire all in one tool. If you're new to mapping I'd avoid it like the plague and learn how to do manual vertex manipulation...it's kinda like this...you spend hours and hours trying to figure out how to manipulate a brush correctly using the manual method and then all of a sudden you get it...and you know exactly how and what and what not to do...I can't really explain it other than you have to plug away until you figure it out.

It's like soloing in a plane or a helo...you really don't get it until one day it happens...and you get it. Like riding a bike, like <SENSORS FROM VALVE CENTRAL EDITED OUT INAPPROPRIATE SEXUAL REFERENCE>, like oreo's and milk...it's all magic baby...pure magic.

Calm down there Fuzz...

besides he NEEDS to focus on ARSE BEADS (R_speeds)

Calm down? If I was any more calm I'd be like...dead.

r_speeds? Nah...not yet...like Ellie's father told Ellie in the movie "Contact": "Small steps Ellie, small steps"

i concur. after having no clue wat i was doing, and screwing up every complex brush, suddenly, my brain went 'ohhhhhh. i get it now' and the next minute i made a really complex 14 sided thing and it compiled fine i was like 'phoar i know how to do it now' and since that moment on, i actually knew what i was doing and have never had a brush error. (okay maybe one or two)

ok now i have this problem where when i compile in the middle of hlrad it says i get an error...

so I was talking to someone else.. Told me to do map>check brush count and type in 75 for brush.... told me to delete that brush and re-do it.. so i did... and it worked

BUT THEN.... latedr down the road after i re-vamped the map... i kept getting the same error... its always a part of the Sky ALWAYS.... so i keep re-doing them... deleting the piece and re-creating it... yet... it doesnt want to freaking fix. brush "#75" keeps switching to a different sky piece... im gonna shoot som1...

Well actually Fuzz, I just wanted an excuse to say Arse Beads... tee hee

As for the problem, you can't have one face "see another face" they need to FACE away from each other... face...

ie. . . .

If you made a hole in a wall, for a door lets say, those 4 edges that the door will sit in, couldn't all be part of one brush... because it would be an invalid brush not to mention the faces could "see" each other

Try exporting you map as a .map, then opening the .map in hammer. It might say it hasnt loaded 1 or 2 solids because theyre broken and it might turn up some new errors in 'check for problems'

Nexxus you gotta calm down. This board is a privilege, not a due.

First you posted this thread in the mapping forum (with "YES I SEARCHED" in the title ROFL) hopefully it was moved.

Then you edited your first post. Not nice for those who will use the search function in the future, or simply read it.

Last thing no need to quote yourself it just pisses people off.

You may understand all this the day where you will answer to people here, not only ask questions as if you were the king. What part of the word "Thank you" don't you understand?

Since i can't be only an arse (bead) ;) today, i hope your sky brushes are completely covered with sky texture. And please be more precise. If you don't report exactly what error HLrad says it may be harder for you.

that would be because hlrad didnt tell me the exact error =D

it just says there was an "error" compiling

yes my sky brushes are all covered in sky texture

i apologize for editing my first post but i kept getting answers to old questions and i didnt want to make a new thread that would clutter the board =D

Put your mymap.map in a zip and attach it here, someone may help :)
