lousy leaks

I hate leaks, I hate leaks, I hate leaks... and I hate how the compile tools attempt to "help" you find them... grr..

Anyway, I know there are all sorts of websites that give you tips on how to "find leaks" but they never seem to work for me..... how do you guys deal with leaks?

I personally do 6 things:

- Carefully check EVERY single edge of my map
- Scream curses at my computer
- Guess where the leak may be and place a block around that area. I compile, and if it fixed the leak, I then shrink the block a bit and compile again, until I single the exact location out.
- Throw things at my computer
- Cry and ask questions such as, "Why are you doing this to me?!" and "What did I ever do to you to deserve this?!"
- Start stupid threads like this because I'm fustrated and annoyed and I've checked every damn corner of my map and I still haven't found anything and I really really really wish there was some other way to figure it out, I've spent so much time building my map and now I can't compile properly because of some .5 inch GAP between the sky and the floor SOMEWHERE that's not even in THIS PLANE OF EXISTANCE!!

... heh...

seriously... any tips or am I pretty much on par with what I should be doing? =b

Try putting on extra box around you map, then remove your lighting from the map (if you've just got the 'main' light as in the sun it makes it easier) then in the extra box you just made add a light_env and crank the color to some ridiculously bright color like pink or red, then recompile and run around in spec on your map (which should be pitch black inside now) and if you see any pink or red light or what ever color you decided showing through the you've found the leak.

I found the links.

A few clanmates and I are going to playtest tonight, I'm gonna fix a few lighting problems, and then I'll post a wip thread for my map w/ pics. hehe.

prevention is the best cure. dont let them happen in the first place. compiling regularly helps you find them because u know what uve changed.
