Generating smoothe terrain... How?

The terrain I have been able to generate using hammer is ...well... lacking to say the least... Is there a program out there that makes smoothe terrain modeling easier?

I know there is a terrain generator for HL (search for Nemesis+terrain) but the best way, and least w poly expensive is to simply do it yourself using triangles and vertex manipulation

Heres some terrain from my dod_winter44 map
Use it as you will. No errors in any of the brushes. I'd suggest selecting the whole thing and "nulling" the textures first.
