Map won't load!

Well, I have compiled my map several times now, tried with various settings....including minimal with no null stripping as I feared that may just be the problem.

I have also checked every single file in the entity list (models/sprites, etc) and checked they are in the correct locations, I have made sure it is all in lowercase. The only errors I get when compiling are a few leaf saw into portal thread (or something like that) when I compile, although this never stopped it working before :|

Anyway, heres the problem: Every time I try running the map, dod just freezes in the console with no errors....also, it can view the map fine in BSP Viewer :S

Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem can be? thanks :)

Sounds frustrating.

Is everything else working, like other maps?

Do you have a chart ( from compiling your map with the -chart argument set ) so you know your map hasn't hit any limit ?

Otherthings I can think of is that some file(s) has been damaged, like some model or sprite, and windows just keep on chewing at that file...

Last but most unlikely is that you have some memory problems with your computer. If you can't find any other solution try running some memory test program and se what it says..

Hope you can solve it!

Yeah i thought it could be a corrupt file somewhere, but i checked all models in hlmv, all sprites in sprite viewer, etc

Any limitations? not that i know of - the map just almost fill the whole grid but theres plenty of space around it....and it runs in BSPViewer fine, NO problems at all!!

Haven't done a chart yet, but will do when I compile it again later

Other maps run fine, so not too sure whats wrong with it....will just have to see what happens :( - Don't think it would be a memory problem either, I've tested it on another machine.

Anyway, heres my plan for tomorrow:

Replace EVERY texture with one black texture
Erase all models/sprites on map
Compile half of the map.

So if one works, I will do the other until i target the problem. I will gradually replace things too until i find out what specifically is...hopefully can sort it

Gah the frustration!!

I have a suggestion...how long is your map name? I had issues where HL would crash when loading names that were too long.

Try posting your whole compile output too, then we can maybe find something in that.

sometimes DOD does give me an error, it only pretends to crash, let me explain.

I compile map and go to run it, everythings loading fine but then out of the middle of nowehere DOD freezes on the console. The computer seems frozen and will do nothing requiring a restart. what its actually doing is giving me a windows error which is hidden by the DOD console picture. simply pressing enter returns the computer to full working capacity.

fiding out what the error is in these situations is DAMN hard i can neveer remember how but i always get past them I'll pay attention next time it happens for you.

i discovered it was a problem with having too many wads :P

Yea ive ran into that...

Dont cut back and retexture... just combine all your wads into one huge Uber wad... thats what I did and it works great.
