When i go to compile a map everything runs smooth till it gets to the end says it can't copy, i scroll up to check the error and it says it can not locate the wads that i used. In hammer, in texture menu where do you add the textures from, what folder did you take them from. Am I missing something, with this steam everything mess up i must be doing something wrong so can someone help me out.

Remove all the wad files you arent using.
Having too many loaded can cause wacky effects.

Iv changed the map around removed some texture files and still got this messeage still not sure what u meant in ur last messeage. Im pulling all my textures from F/sierra/half life/ dod/ not from my steam aps/ email/ dod/ folder iv tried it from there and it didn't work. I have same files in both folders so should i delete the seirra folder and keep the dod files in steam.

Make your own wad file, but only with the textures you're using.
Use this in Hammer.

Then exporting ur map again (to *.map format).

TheNomad
10-06-2003, 11:02 AM
make a new wad and have just the Null texture.

go to edit select all, the make everything have the null texture.

go to the options, and get rid of all the wads except ur new one.

then add the individual textures from the wads so u only compile with one wad.

its annoying but its the best way. :)

what i ment about not using more than 8 wads is y ur map wont compile, u have a gizillion wads loaded into hammer, only use 8, preferably just 1.

PS I noticed u had knight.wad ;)

Capt Winter
10-06-2003, 04:08 PM
i got the map knight and when i extract it into dod folder a knight wad comes out hope ur not mad if i used it or anything are you? So what ur saying about all this is make the map with all the textures i want then somehow combine them into one wad and name the wad mymap.wad

PS not sure how to add the textures to one wad.

10-06-2003, 08:24 PM
get Wally (VERC should have a link). it has a no brainer wad merge function.

Capt Winter
10-08-2003, 04:07 PM
iv never used verv before can ya help me out and find it for me, thx.

lol mad, no way, it shows u dl'ed my map :), and use all the textures u want, most of them are the dod standerd.

about the wally thing.

In wally, go to Wizard/Wad Merge and just select the wads u want, and it will make a new wad from all of them.

Its a great site is has links to resources with tuts and disucsions on higher end mapping aswell.

Capt Winter

Yea i have the site already book marked i just don't have a good time finding things there can't you just help me out but giving me a little more info, thx a lot don't laugh at me cause i can't figure it out. Oh and where do u get wally?

Kehldon

If you look at the menu on the right side of the Verc Site, you will se the popular resources. Under it is a link to Halflife Utilities, click it and you got alot of good stuff, among them is Wally...

http://collective.valve-erc.com/data/docs/1047496381-02062100/files/wally_155b.exe

Capt Winter

so the compile ran fine with the new wad merge but now when i go to test the map it exit to windows and a box comes up saying unable to find the new wad i made with wally.

Craftos

WAD should be in \sierra\half-life\dod folder.

The error you have mentioned in 1st post is because Hammer doesn't attach drive to paths of WADs when he exports to .MAP file. You could try to install compiler tools + batch compiler + Half-Life with dod on the same drive.
But it may not work, so best thing is to use "texture wad configuration file". Read more about it in instructions.html (it's in compiler tools package).

Capt Winter
10-11-2003, 03:45 PM
i used batch compiler and i managed to fix it shortly after i posted that post, in batch compiler when compiling map i just went to include wad in compile. By checkin no wad textures and browsing to the wad next to it.
