An Idea for Iron Sights

Since we can't really origin the model for true ironsights, because of clipping and such, couldn't someone just make V models of the aiming sights, without all the gun stuff...just the sights and maybe a little bit of the barrel and then center the origin?

Just kind of a clumsy thought, that might be an interesting idea.

Yes, I think this would work well. This is the method the Hostile Intent mod is using.

I believe this would work well. I may try this out. But I first want to finish my I/S packs. Maybe after I finish my British pack I'll try it out with a gun. Just to see how this would work. But I'm no expert modeler, so don't expect too much.

I rather like the sprites used in Op Flashpoint. They are "blurred" around the edges but have a sharp focal point to aim through.

Ive just finished playing Vietcong - the Ironsight mode in that game is fantastic - wish it was coded like that for DoD.

Oh well.....

By the way, great Idea you have. I must admit I had the same thought several months ago !

:)

That's what we're going for in "Shores of Victory".

By the way, would it make any sense to make the running/idle animation keep the weapon at a normal origin, but make the firing animation bring the weapon up to the iron sights view?

Then, when you start running again it would go back down to normal?

No, Hostile Intent has a secondary fire hipshot/IS changer. Also, you'd need everything else for other animations, reloading in particular.

That would be a good idea, except how would you aim your first shot? It would be a pain to have to fire once just to get into I/S mode. And if you did that then you would give away your position thus loosing the element of surprise!

I remember that there was a Iron Sight/OPFLASh type aiming project going on during 2.0.

i was wondering could anyone do this?
it was for sniper rifles, the model was iron sight and when you pressed the scope button you would ZOOM in.

any thoughts?

also not to go off topic but i have XP up and running and WOWSERS. dod in a window!!!! kick ace.:D

I didn't want to let this out, but keep an eye out for my I/S pack for the Brits. I'm going to try to I/S the sniper rifle in the manner you are speaking of. I will also do it for the US and the Axis. But the British pack will be complete first.

Someone already did that, pal. It was a springfield, but I don't remember quite who did it. The scope was transparent so you could see through it and, and it was "iron"sighted. Problem is the coding makes the springfield inaccurate when it's unscoped, so you're better off just using the scope instead.

that was triggers springfield I believe.

well, depending on how much of the gun you want, that would work, you wouldn't have any clip. You would just have a lot of empty space lol. Then, if you do have alot of the gun other than the sights, then you would still have clipping issues.

So, in theory, it would work, but it would look REALLY whacked.
