I'm finally gettin somewhere with my first map evah :)
Before I show u the screens note that it ain't a realistic map like most here, it's a map just for fun and hopefully nice gameplay.
It'll have 6 flags in the end and u can blow some stuff up with the bazooka for strategical purposes and a few things u can blow up just for fun. :D
Ok, here's the screens of my progress so far, I'd say I'm about 50% done. I'll see if i can get some action screens soon too.

ooo, this map isnt ment to be realistic, shall we flame and dis this guy....NO..i think not since MOST of us are mature
It looks nice, tho a bit brighter in some areas and more detail should do the trick
looks to me like your showing the same room 7 times
with hardly any lightning or interesting stuff on the inside
think of cool stuff to put in there or make better use of the
textures

Lose the yellow light. Coloured light looks rubbish in HL unless its for Neon Signs or something!
Texture work looks OK, but its hard to get any idea about the map, the screens are all rather dark, and dont show a large layout of the map.
is it your first map? :D
First: change textures plz :D
Second: Try to built different rooms, or some landscape :)
BTW: The room is too empty :)
But ok for first map :D

Yeah, it's rather dark, I'm gonna try to make it a bit less, but in some areas i kinda like the darkness.
Textures I will change, cuz I'm still just trying different textures to see how they look and i suck with them :)
I'm probably gonna make the other half of the map outside so I can try to make my first landscape
And I didn't get to the room yet (looking for nice prefabs to put in it, if anybody got some good ones dont be afraid to gimme a link :p )

Easy on the prefabs... try getting someone to make some models for you 2 stick in the map.
THere did used to be a site with prefabs on, but I dunno if it exists still... it was a hosted site on the old dod website.

Anybody know a site with good models then? :) Right now I have a lot of prefabs in it but 0 models
Theres a list in the FAQ for models. And we arent going to flame this guy for an un-realistic map because 1. its his first map, and 2. You can see he put a lot of work into it.
Looks ok, except for as before the lighting. And a little change in the textures and its looking good!

Well I know him, he is just excited about mapping for now. He will make a nice gentile touchdown soon when I start to harass him with more mundane stuff at Dutch Day of Defeat site :D

its very gud concidering my first map was "dod_boxwithsky" this was shortly folowed by "dod_boxwithskyandarmchair,"

I made quite a bit of progress by now (added a river and the last 2 flags)
But I have a new problem. I wanted to make the map brighter so I checked out a tutorial on light and it said I just needed 1 light_enviroment placed anywhere in the map and the map would look normal. I placed one and compiled. First three tries hammer crashed during compilation, and the 4th time it worked, but the map is completely dark. There is no light at all! :confused:
In the compile text thingy I did notice something about there being 2 direct lights, but I could only find 1 light entity, I dunno if that means anything but if one of u knows how to fix this and get my light back plz dont hesitate :P
keep building on, try to built new brushes , if you work hard you will learn it fast. The Question is if you will be a good or a bad, but never stop to try, someday you will have a great idea!
Believe me i´am mapping for so long time, and i´m not very good ;)

Don't use Hammer for compiling but ZHLT for starters :)

I do, I compile in hammer with ZHL, but it's not the compiling thats the prob, the problem is I aint got no light! :(

:( I took the advice of Trail_Duck he gave me on irc and compiled using .bat files, if compiled good but still the map seems to just ignore my light_enviroment en the whole motherf.... is pitchblack ;(

great map for a first attempt :) keep at it, it looks good and you'll learn the mroe you do it. trust me im new to mapping to. your doin good!
