[MWiP] French Mle 1886/93 "Lebel" Sniper

around 2100 poly or so, originally converted from a 1024x1024 texture for another mod that I was working on that fell through. Anyway like the title designates it was a French arm that served in WWI and into WW2 even with more advanced rifles in the french ranks such as the MAS-36 and the Ribeyrolles Sutter and Chauchat Model 1917 semi-automatic rifle. Here are some pics so far. It IS in game, but the animations do need some tweaking to be accurate, the hand clips a little through the bolt, and the reload sequence is all wrong right now.

So did you have to shrink the texture down from 1024 x 1024 to 512 x 512?

yeah :/

Hey all,

That gun looks so sweet!

If its French is would be cool to have a French pack to replace British maybe and it would fit great.

Maybe Ska Warz will redo his for 1.0.

Ooouuu! That -is- pretty! I'm sure it could be remeshed to use the full 1024x1024 texture, if you break it down in to four 512x512'ers. I do hope you still have the original texture. :x

Looks a bit off in-game, though...

Remember, guys. DoD's about gameplay, not politics. Keep your half-baked political opinions to yourselves.

Wren

My opinion isn't political, hehe. Its biased.

Maybe ppl are sick of seeing remake after remake of the same damn american or german weapons? I mean for God's sakes they weren't the only ones to fight and die in WW2. There are plenty of replacements being made by ppl like Trigger, Russ. Conscript, and the other excellent contributors in MSA for American/German weapons. There you go. Merry Christmas.

The French dropped out soon... yeah, right. What do you call La Resistance? A group of french citizens pretending to fight the Germans? Who here knows that the French army actually captured German territory in the Saar in September 1939? Anyone?

ok I'm done, mods can delete, modify, whatever

Thanks, John Doe and Ska.

It's as if the word, "WORLD" [as in WORLD war two, right? right? right!] got lost in there somewhere.

I wonder why.

How many of you French-haters have blond hair and blue eyes, and are pure-bred home-town boys, I wonder?

Ska Wars

I have nothing but respect for what the French did in WW2. They fought bloody hard and they suffered badly under the nazi rule.

It's all to easy to slag off a country saying they put up no fight, but have you ever actually tried reading up on what actually happened? I bet half of you french haters can't even name three battles fought between the French and the Axis.

And saying they put up no fight is complete bull****, look at the French Air Force, Free French Commandos and the Resistance. They had no country to call their own but did they give up? Did they hell, they took up arms by whatever means neccesary (whether it being lent to them by the Common wealth or by stealing them from Germans) and they fought on bloody hard. The French earned the victory in the end.

Cheer Doe, I was gonna foam at the mouth if another person said "Great Work" and I still hadn't seen it lol

That looks bloody great, it kinda looks like a winchester (the metal parts near the trigger). I'd definately use this when its release, great job!

@ John Doe, whatever happened to your Brit trenchcoats from 3.1? The hackjon of Devs and DWMK, did you ever release them?

How about everyone shuts up about the whole matter and talk about the model?

Personally, I think it looks great, I'm glad to see a new kind of weapon, there's entirely too few of em released.

Vandal
06-18-2003, 01:54 PM
Very pretty model.

To respond to everyone......

#1) Easy does it, the point some people are trying to make is that DoD is a game involving the three biggest western powers in the war, so they'd rather see models after other US, Brit, and German guns that are not used in the game. (IE that scoped K43)

#2) For those of you with that attitude, there are only so many models you can make after US, Brit and German weapons, a little variaty is good! Thats why we're doing the Russian pack (shamless plug)

#3) Its just a game. Go run around the block a few time, folks. Your all are a bit too angry.

What mod and what other stuff do you have? I dont care if its complete or not. As the saying goes: One man's garbage is another mans treasure. Half completed models, animations, players, peices or models, whatever.

LOVe this gun, but the skin just isnt DoD fitting style, it looks like it would fit in more with MoH stuff....im not sure how it could be redone, but would make it even more badass :) and kewl un-scoping job there cheet :)

Btw, french resistance rocked the nazi's world

I don't know if it's applicable, but I'm thinking it could do with a little more detail. It seems terribly flat and bland. Of course, I don't know if that's how it was in real life.
