*** I was made aware of a small problem with the reload animations with this release, the bolt didn't go back, and the hand that put the new clip in had a clipping problem. Thanks to Marzy, this is all fixed. The zip is updated, so please re-download. Thanks again, Marzy. ***

Well, you guys wanted this, and I really wanted to give it to you. So I finished it up, fixed a couple things, and added Glimsharp's awesome reload animations to this. Here it is. In my opinion, this is my favorite garand skin I've done yet. So I hope you like it, too! :D

FEATURES:
- A 612x412 Hi Res Photorealistic Woodgrain Texture Taken From A 1600x1200 Digital Photo
- Fixed the circle dent on the aiming reticule, in the original skin it was off-center which drove me absolutely crazy. It's centered now.
- Added Glimsharp's awesome reload animations
- Darkened the metal a bit
- Added Hi-Res Bullet Shell textures on the clip
- Comes with reskinned P, V, and W models (all hi-res with 512x512 textures, all are featured in picture below)

CREDITS:
Model: Nomad
Original Skin: Polygon (?)
Animations: DoD Team
New Reload Animation: Capt. Glimsharp
New Bullet Shell Textures: Bots
New Wood Skin: Dillinger
Animation Fixes: Marzy

Amazing work Dillinger. I really didn't like Nomad's model before, but with this skin, it looks fantastic. BTW, what player model set is that?

Hey, the metal skin on the p and w models is Merca's (I think) whereas the v model has Poly's metal. Do you have metal on the v model in 512x512 size (darkened and all)?

And great work! I was using the wood texture from your previous Garand and I loved it. This one's even better.

I'm definitely using this :D

It seems that nobody notice a bug in the reload animation (but my english is really bad so maybe I only don't see it :p).
If you look the screen (took under HLMV) during the reload animation the bolt is already close ! So I think it's an error and it should be fixed asap :)

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 10:00 AM
I do believe that's just a bug with the animation and/or model, nothing I can really do about that. It's not noticeable anyway, I didn't even notice it haha.

Sorry but that's the first thing I have notice the first time the reload animation was played, so it's noticeable.

Sorry, but I have no idea how to fix it. I'm no animator or modeler. :(

Editor321
06-14-2003, 10:35 AM
yeah that reload kinda ruins the total feel for me :(

but gj anywawy :)

yeah i checked out the original and another garand that this animation was applyed to , they both work. so it must have been something that you did by acciedent

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 10:51 AM
Hm, the reload never happens twice for me, but a for the other thing...

I'm not sure how to fix it. I copied the reload.smd and all the reload animation lines from the qc over to the new one. No idea how to fix it.

I'll see what I might can hack out of it Dillinger.

I've fixed the reload, do you wont me to upload it Dillinger, or shall i just upload the fixed reload.smd file so you can recompile it yourself.

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 11:06 AM
Thanks a lot marzy, if you could just upload the fixed v_garand.mdl, I'd really really appreciate it.

Die Schlampfe
06-14-2003, 11:20 AM
Ah, oh well, I tried lol. I was going into milkshape and moving the bone (?) to empty position, setting the keyframe and such. Very tedious process but I'm sure there was an easier way.

How did you manage to do it Marzy?

MaRzY
06-14-2003, 11:23 AM
No probs, sorry for the delay but the textures got knocked out of line a bit when i decompiled, so i had to do me best to fix these back up, anyway hope i've done a good enough job.

Die Schlampfe i loaded up the reference file and the reload anim, then in animation mode i deleted all the frames for bone 68 i think, then just reanimated it, using around 6 keyframes. I thought i could get away with 3 keyframes, but part of the cover kept sliding out of the back of the model, so i had to use a few extra keyframes to stop that.

Wait, theres more errors, i've taken down that fixed zip, the right hand wrist seems to of been assigned wrong, theres a gapping hole , ill fix it and make a repost give us a few mins.

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 11:49 AM
Eep! Okay haha.

06-14-2003, 12:02 PM
good god i love you. please have my children.

06-14-2003, 12:02 PM
I totally fixed mine including the thing sticking out the back and the see-through hand. I also fixed where it seems to "jump" to a different position at the end of the reload.

The easiest way to fix the thing (sorry don't know what it should be called, bolt?) staying closed on the Garand was to just assign it to the same bone that the thing you slap is assigned to. It's the very last bone if I remember right. I just SelAssigned the second to last bone, hit Clear, then went to the last bone, hit SelUnAssigned and then hit Assign.

I don't have anywhere to upload this except Geocities or if I sent it to Canuck, though.

MaRzY
06-14-2003, 12:07 PM
Ok we will try again, i've fixed the reload anim, and also fixed the wrists to stop them causing holes and clipping around the sleeves.

Dillinger your server space does not of seemed to of updated with the new file, it's still the old one that seems to D/l, try deleting the the file from your server space, then try the download link and make sure it does not work, then upload the fixed file again, that should sort it.

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 12:57 PM
Yeap, just did that. I updated the main post while it was uploading, so you may have got it before it switched over.

I just downloaded and it's the right version. Thanks for the heads-up and thanks again for fixing it. Can't thank you enough :D

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 01:03 PM
Of course I had to add you! I can't let something like this just slip past everyone without letting them know that the wonderful Marzy made this work correctly :)

Bots
06-14-2003, 01:24 PM
I like it... but your wood texture seems too unique and exotic be factory mass produced like the m1 garand was. Typically wood that was used for small arms was relatively nondescript. You would rarely find a service rifle that had such elaborate grain patterns. So this reskin is good for those who don't care about the historical significance of mass produced weaponry.

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 01:38 PM
Yeah, my reskins aren't made to be historically accurate. They are made to be something I like to look at. I like to see the woodgrain on rifles, hence I take hi-res pictures of wood and put them on it. I'll be the first one to say that I've never said that my skins are historically accurate.

great work dil :)

Die Schlampfe

Bots, has anyone made a good historical accurate (somewhat) Garand out there anywhere?

I'm a big realism wh.ore, especially on meh Garand, cuz I wub that weapon.

EGETRae
06-14-2003, 02:42 PM
Great skin!!! But hell i am starting to hate that model...ain't it back from 1.3b???? we could use new models...But as i said great skin! :D

Die Schlampfe
06-14-2003, 02:44 PM
Off Topic: Egetrae, might want to resize that sig, kinda big.

This is a great garand model but it suffers from the same woe that I found from the default Garand, the front end of the gun looks bigger than my head.

Guns with smaller front ends = teh winnar.

06-14-2003, 03:46 PM
Hey all,

Sweet work. *Downloads*

Dillinger
06-14-2003, 05:35 PM
I agree Die, I like a little bit bigger reticule, but this and most models are too big. But I like this model, nonetheless. Best custom one out there I think. :D

Die Schlampfe
06-14-2003, 05:54 PM
Nein Herr Dillinger, the best to me is your reskin of the MoH one.

This one would rock if I can get Arsenal Gear to give me his origins for the default Garand because it makes the front end look a lot smaller.

06-14-2003, 06:10 PM
I edited my post and host with the updated v_model and readme :)

I would have to agree, although the wood you used Dillinger is fantastic, it isn't the match type wood commonly used for the Garands. I love the use of artistic license never the less.
