dod_cliffside progress

This is my deathmatch style map, it's only meant to be "what fy_iceworld should really look like" I wanted to make a single arena map that uses the available r_speeds and not make 6 brushes or so and call it a map, so here it is, dod_cliffside. The highest r_speed is 800-850, and for a 400,000 square foot, open map I think that's pretty damn good.

-The host doesn't like direct links, copy and paste or drag and drop the addresses into the address bar.-

it was really the best sky I could find...although it's not exactly what I want...and I don't know exactly how I would go abouts making it more dramatic, I could make the shadows darker, that may give it a different feel.

It's just all bright and happy right now. I'm always intiqued by sorta dark/light dramatic lighting. Andy has real nice lighting for campagne (im sure you've seen the screens).

The Killertomato sky might work for this, I was messing around with a snowy map before and that sky seemed to work well with it.

I'll try out a whole whack of skies and lighting, and I want to fix the angle of some of the edges because it's possible to get caught up sometimes, and I don't want that to happen anywhere in the map.

the difference in terrain height is actually a lot of cover, the only purpose for this map was to show if someone was going to make a iceworld style one large room you might as well have interesting terrain.

Actually looks good and interesting. You actually had to make terrain which itself seperates you from dod_dirtbowl or iceworld. It looks like itd be a fun change. Better than Frad3

will there be weapon stripping? if not, i don't know how much fun this could be. during warm-up you point your gun at people and die in 2sec. with weapon stripping you could run around and grab a weapon then die in 5sec. you could put a GIANT rock in the middle. that could make it alittle more interesting.

Really I have as many trees in there as I can without causing lag, so the big rock idea might work...as for the pictures...I say yet again -copy and past the link, or drag and drop the link into your address bar- I'll attach a picture if you can't do the latter.

I play test it with fog on and fog off...I wish that I could force fog because it truely gives an effect that the mountain doesn't end...but sadly I can't do that.

after u copy and paste into browser add a question mark after the .jpg.... so it says blahblah.jpg?

yea adding the ? worked, now i see the pics

I thinks forcing fog would be better cos its snow and there would be fog

also..good map.. are there any building. i think it would be good wothout any buildings, (except maybe at spawn)

There are issues that I'm already aware of that were brought up in that thread...also it doesn't mention how you have to turn the minimap off as well to have fog work. So in short, the fog will by your (and whoever else is playing's) choice.

The small update that I have about it right now is that I've been able to cut the compile time by 2/3rds...The r_speeds are now 550 or lower...the sky has been changed...larger cliff faces in the centre and an overpass has been added.

Both ways are very playable, but personally with fog is a better challenge and more interesting.
