Yes, please do contact the author for permission if they have not publicly stated that their models are free for use in that way.

As for models from official mod / retail dod versions...you are probably free to use extracted texture from those models for your custom DoD maps. I think Pickitup and Thunder would know better, but I'm pretty sure that is the case.

I believe this same model is used in chemille so would it not also go by the same rules as the map textures?

I don't think it would be that great of a map texture actually though. It's very small (think 64x64 and has writing on the bottom of it.

I think backslider made that watertower. Take a look at the texture in hlmv.

Any files within dod can be used for dod as long as you are not going to make money off of them

Valve owns all of the official dod content

dod stuka isnīt owned by valve, itīs a custom map!

iíll try to conact theses guys! ;)

Nevermind. I mixed up 2 different models.

The water tower model used in dod_chemille is big_water_tower.mdl, not stuka_wtower.mdl. I don't think stuka_wtower.mdl is included in the installation of DoD.

Owned by valve. Activision owns all.

aren't we all communists workers!!!!??? Good discussion heh? When we make something under HL, is it automatically owned by Activision and we have no rights to it...and we r forced to let that be a "content" belong to Valve instead of a voluntary contribution by ourselves as an individual?

lol, maybe start makin' your own textures, your own models, your own content....then voluntarilly contribute it to the HL community as a whole. Don't touch anything that belongs to HL. Don't use theier studiomdl to produce the mdl. Don't use hlbsp. Just make raw content. Make from scratch. I guess that can work....only u got no readily available result or playing interface.

Not that i have anything against Valve. Valve rules. Without it, there would be no HL and no custom material that is playable. They certaintly deserve all the credit. It's just that there are the rules of "I own all. U guys just make whatever content and all that automaticlaly belongs to me so i force u guys now to send the stock to me!" It is different from "I actually own it all, but i'm a gentleman and won't force it on you to contribute it to me unless you voluntarily choose to. So, i'm kind and won't take advantage of you but instead benefit you."

Likewise, since those content in dod retail is owned by Valve, and free for all to use as a public domain, but still owned by Valve regardless, it gives plenty of resources to the public. It's not like the individuals get ditched though. I'm sure DoD should have had a credits page, perhaps showing and thanking those pple that makes all those nice content. (eg. There should be a full precise credits showing every contribution and content made by these individuals, to give them credit! Everything down to 100% detail! Maybe someone should start up a credits page....some map .bsp cutscene presentation!!)

It's cool though, that government systems also adopt this technique of prime ownership under the government. It ensures the public has the resources, yet ownership has still to be under a government, lest the resources be kept stashed by selfish cooperations/individuals/madmans/profitereers and it becomes a wholely selfish fight and struggle for power/resources among the various factions. The problem however lies if the government is ambitious, selfish and rude....and fails to realise that even the things he own doesn't belong totally to him exclusively, but of a higher authority.

Eg. Not that iNW (group) material can be stolen though. The property belongs rightfully to them. Stealing is wrong. And they are in no way forced to send it out to public domain. If they give it out to public domain, it would be out of their free will among the single individual(eg. HnK's decided to release his model pack last time). Good decision? Indeed and really benefits others and even himself! Also, the inW material found in DoD retail can be used as a public domain for HL, as it is under prime ownership of Valve/Activision and they have given the "go" for it. You see, giving isn't bad. It is good.

Activision's role with dod is as a publisher not a developer

Was it really neccessary for NC17 to quote what Gildas had said. I mean it was right above him. I like my scroll wheels to have a good lifespan.

have you ever tried pressing yours down, you should get like a little circle with an up and down arrow and ur cursor an up and down arrow. simmply move your mouse up and it will scroll at a speed relative to the symbol and your cursor.
