Fps probs

My map is rather big, it has a very high roof and at some points you can look all the way to the other side of the map so the fps are awefull, but in places on the map were u can only look like 3 meters ahead the fps are also around 20 :/
Can anyone x-plain to me in mapper newby language what to do or at least why the fps are also crappy in places were u cant see far?

r_speeds must be horrible... you need VIS blocking (like with sky brushes bloking the vision of player)..also better map layout design would be good so you couldn't look to the other side of the map..
i'm not much into this but those are what i have understood
edit: oh and fps is crappy also in places where you can't see far because hl engine does. It can see trough buildings and it has to render those etc buildings too.. VIS blocking is the solution here
you could go to my old post about that called City Map Big!!!! try 3-4 page...
they helped me out big time with the same problem.
