YaY Newbie Mapper!

<----Now wants to be a DOD Mapper!

I already have the proper tools to do so, and have Hammer up and running with all the settings up, etc. But when I look for a place to start, I am stumped :(

I have looked at the sites in the FAQ Threads, but am not finding one detailed enough to explain how to begin working, form the ground up. I always loved making maps for Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear (Yah old skool) and figured I would try this :D

Anyone have any link to TRULEY detailed tutorials on how to begin? Would be a big help, Thanks.

This got me started , of course i dont map anything anymore , but i could. The problem i have is scaling everything.

Its the old fakedawg tutorial , very helpful.

BTW- One thing might have changed , the entities might not work , if not just check back or on ValveERC.

ALSO- Compiling always gave me hell , ask around about that.

remember once you start mapping you just don't stop. look at me I started with Civ 2 and now I map for every game I own, hlel i barely play the games some weeks.

start simple. dont try too much.

my first 5 projects were way over ambitious, and ended in disaster.

Than you are still in luck. I have been busy helping out on DoD sites the last months. I don't even get the chance to play OR map these days. Did some study on Bunker development though with another Dutch guy called Dynamiter. We will probably be making maps together from now on.

Thanks guys for posting those links, I was about to ask basically the same question about making maps for DoD but stumbled upon this thread. My first map that I will attempt to make will be one of my work area at the factory I am employed at. I think it would be fun to bring a gun into that god for saken place and not have any repurcussions! It should be a small map, with only 5 or six rooms, and a larger opened center area, just for kicks.

Now heres something I wish to ask. How realistic is mapping for a moron like me that knows basically only how to install games and play them? I have no other programming, cad, anything computer skilled. Give me some hope and say, "Hey moron, it will take time, but you CAN do it!"

Thanks again.

Just make sure that when you start to map that you have to begin small. Make a basic concept of your map. Compile it to see if you got the basics right. Than start to add some detail and stuff to get the right feel for what you want your map to be like.
Even if you have to compile dozens of time, it is wel worth the time instead of having to bughunt a map.

The movies in this thread (http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3707&highlight=video) show you everything you need to start mapping.

These are all very helpful. Can you tell me if these will work with mapping for other mods...
