[SWIP] Hi-Res Bren Reskin From Scratch

Saw a lot of people asking for a hi-res skin of the bren, so I've decided to take the project and I'm giving you a little taste of what's to come and how much I've got done, so that I can see what you guys think.
I created brand new 512x512 metal textures from scratch for this and worked on reskinning this bad boy. I've been working on it for 4 hours or so now and just have to finish up a few bits and pieces including the magazine and some other various parts. I am going to add hi-res wood to the handle and stock by the time it's done.
So here's a collage of HLMV pictures to show you what it's looking like (the picture's about 120kb):

And a Comparison Pic to the old Bren:

Let me know what you think!

Your work never ceases to amaze me Dillinger, keep it up. I wish I could do modeling and skinning, but I have no talent, or I guess the patience to learn.

I think I like the default more.
j/k that Fing rules cant wait to dl. Keep up the great work man
looking very nice, keep it up!
Looks good man, cant wait to check it out
did you reskin the clip too?? because IMO the clip is the first thing you look at on the bren cause its on the top and right infront of ur face, so it should be appealing... what do you think,

Of course the clip is being reskinned with a hi-res skin, too :D!

It's all done, but the stupid stupid stupid transparency isn't working! ARG

so you cant just import the skin? in hlmv
if not, just decompile and recompile with those same textures. that should work, unless youve edited the qc.

The default skin is 256x256, so I had to decompile and recompile with the new 512x512's, I have made the blue the last color in the color table for both skins and added
$texrendermode "skin2_test.bmp" "masked"
$texrendermode "skin4_test.bmp" "masked"
To the .qc and it still shows up as blue in-game. SO frustrating!

Until I can figure out what's wrong with the stupid transparency, I can't release...but here's an in-game pic of the finished product, minus the transparency.

I think you need to recompile the model for it to work? I don't think you can add blue into the skinmap and apply it in HLMV and expect it to work.
Dillinger

No, I already did recompile with the correct lines in the qc for transparency (multiple times, I might add). I've gotten transparency to work before on the enfield reskin I did, but this one just won't work.
Like I said these textures are from scratch so I had to decompile anyway to make the textures 512x512, so it's been done. It's just that this transparency process is BS and only works half the time.

Are you sure blue is the last colour in the spectrum or what ever? I see some models that have transparencey colours of red and green some times.

Completely positive. I've triple and quadruple checked this and even did it again, re-saved the textures and recompiled. No dice.
Here's a picture showing the color table with the same shade of blue at the end of the color table as used for the transparent parts.

Yeah i have the exact same problems with the transparencies as well, modified a Kar98 the other day that someone did with with butt-smash anims instead of bayonet, and it was PERFECT...except for those f&%$@ng blue parts, no matter what i did.
Thats beautiful work as always Dillinger, hope you figure out the problem better than i have so far lol.
I could fix that for you, if you want

Get rid of the other blue in the palette, and just have the one blue making sure it's the last in the palette.
Remember an index image means that every colour in your image is in an index from 0 to 255.
It seems to me what you have done is make your skin then just copyed the blue colour to the last in the palette, but your image is still using the other blue in your palette.
The blue in your image has to be the last colour in your palette, and not just copyed from somewhere else in the palette and plonked at the end of the palette, thats not how an index image works.
