I would like to take an overview of the map 415map1939, but I cant.
When I get outside the skybox, almost everything disappears.

Is there a console command to solve the problem?

it's not a suggestion m8 it's the only way to do it properly so follow closely what is said and you should manage to get your overview working fine

I know it's the the way to take an overview...
but I had just used that way, and it worked for all the maps.
On this map, as i said, I just get this
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/8695/dod415map1939b10002lm9.jpg
could it be related to a sort of a "fadeout" - "maxdistance visibility" property on almost all models and brushes?
It's weird because it's the first map I saw this happening...

now that is somehow veeeery strange indeed m8
I must say.....
At what point in the process does this appear? as soon as you change to top view or after zooming in and out?

Or he could wait for the mapper (me) to make a public release of the map and add one.

it happens right outside the skybox.
Both in spectator mode and with the topview (cl_leveloverview. 6 was the value i used, but I tried even with 2, but the result is the same)
@JCC: I dont usually take overviews of the maps as a hobby :)
I needed this one now (well... yesterday) cause we are using this map in the VIE tournament (victoryineurope.net), and the battle on this map is today.
We usually take a screenshot of the map from above (a perspective or a top view) to draw the strategy on it (location names, routes the players have to follow, mg/sniper spots etc...)
As you are the mapper, could you please explain which is the reason for everything to disappear?
Thanks

The map isn't done yet. All of the tops of the buildings have a nodraw texture on them so no matter what you do you won't get a normal overview. Maybe a "cartoon like" overview can be made but I have no idea how those are made. Also the brushes for the skybox only have the skybox texture on the inside the outside of the skybox is nodraw texture. The castle roof is at the same elevation as the upper skybox.
I don't know what to tell you. If you had contacted me with VIE's intentions perhaps I could have finished that part of the map and included an overview for you. But right now I'm at work and all of the map files are at home.

no prob JCC, and thank you for the reply.
I wouldnt have contacted you with ViE's intentions!
I know how hard mapping is, and how long it takes, so it would be a bit unpolite by me.
I was thinking that it was just me not knowing some console commands to display objects in the overview... and I was asking for someone (possibly a mapper who knows more stuff about source) help to understand if I was missing something.
Anyway I'm happy we can play this map again on source!
So, thanks for your hard work!

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to ask the mapper about a question on a map he or she made.

I just wish I could have publicly released it in a more complete form before it was to be played and scrutinized.

JCCProblem with downloading maps publicly from a server (and in this case probably yours), is you can't control who downloads them and runs them on another server and who doesn't. If it's publicly downloaded (in this case I am assuming it was, since I have seen you play it on your server, without a password) then you have to expect people to run it on their server also, if they enjoy it.
There is also nothing wrong with someone creating something for the map to help out. Rommel would do that stuff all the time and actually release it here also.
I don't understand why you wouldn't want to ask the mapper about a question on a map he or she made.Because he didn't know who made it. If he downloaded it from your server (and again in this case assuming), there may not be documentation of who made it. Someone else could have played it elsewhere, thought the map was worthy, and recommended it to ViE, either way, it's a compliment that they would like to use it.
I just wish I could have publicly released it in a more complete form before it was to be played and scrutinized.
JCCI don't see anywhere in this thread that there has been any form of scrutiny of your map. You also have to realize not everyone knows the etiquette of mapping, what is right and what is wrong.
What's up with all the lecturing? geez.

@Formologic:
you replied for me with my exact thoughts!

I didnt choose the map. The tourney map admin usually choose the maps, and his team vote about the layouts being or not suitable for ViE (battles with 11 to 15 players on each side)
And if a map is choosen, it's because it was released somewhere.
We really do not scrutinize the maps... the most important aspect in ViE is the layout of a map, not its aspect, and 1939 was very fun to play yesterday, and everyone knows the final release will be even better.
Sly-woody, who was the first to reply to my post, is posting his maps in our forum (thx again for your work). Some of them are in our map pool, and he can constantly hear about feedbacks by the players and admins to improve his works for a tourney which is based on large scale battles and teamwork (not small clan matches).
And it's great for the ViE tournament to have this kind of relationship with the mappers.
It woud be very good if you or other 415 mappers would like to the same.
I don't understand why you wouldn't want to ask the mapper about a question on a map he or she made
I'm just a ViE player fighting for one of the 2 armies.
I didnt know the 415 team and when I tried to google the map name to find some info about it and who made it, I got no results!
I must admit it was a quick search, and I can tell you why.
Maps are assigned by TA to one side (for their defense) to choose the spawns 1 week before the battle but they are choosen for a battle by the attacking side just 2 days before.
Usually, when a map has no minimap to draw a strategy on it, you can take a flying overview or a top view of it anyway.
So when we run the map for the first time (to choose the spawn) and saw there was no minimap we werent worried, cause we thought about taking a screenshot from above in spec mode.
2 days before the battle (when our opponents decided to attack on that map) we had to take the screenshot and we werent able to do it.
As our goole searchs gave no results and we had few times, I tried to post here to have some help...
I knew it was already too late, but it was more my personal curiosity cause in the meanwhile we used the old dod 1939 minimap to draw the strat.
