I felt that dod needed tanks, so I decided to make some. It has been very difficult so far. but things are finally starting to work.

Progress:

Brushwork: 100%
Turret control: 98%
Interiors: 98%
Armaments: 0%
Movement: 5%
Parenting: 95%

These are not too hard to control, my 8 year old brother figured it out in about 30 seconds. Therefore, nobody else should have any sever difficulty.

There are still a few glitches to work out, so It may take a while before these are released.

emmm nice idea, not sure how these would work tho;

do they fire?
do they cause damage?

the view from inside IMO needs alittle work, but i could see these burning around orange maps.

whats your plan for them?

These tanks are semi realistic, though they may not look realistic from the inside, they should move like real world war 2 tanks.

Basically, you enter from a door in the back, the driver and gunner (maybe some passengers) get in.

The driver goes to the front, he has a view hole, there are 5 buttons for the driver:

-forward
-stop
-left
-right
-stop turning.

The gunner has 7 controls:

-turret left
-turret right
-turret stop
-barrel up
-barrel direction toggle
-barrel stop
-Fire shell

Even though these sound difficult to use, they really aren't.

I will make a map with 1 or 2 tanks at some point, and I will pass them on as prefabs for other people to use.

Good deal if you can get these to look alittle better these could be used on several large maps .
It sounds very interesting I will give them a try when you get them to a release point thank keep it up .

Can't you use models that are parented to the entity?

No, because then iw ouldn't have an interior. plus brushes save me a lot of time.

If anybody would make a model with a full interior, and view holes for both the gunner, and the driver, I would be glad to make a workign tank out of those.

I apologize in advance, because I will not be able to add much more detail to the tanks, seeing as brush controlled vehicles are not the easiest burden on a server, I would to keep them simple, yet acceptable.

i don't think models would work with the player collision model. the tank would have to be huge to get people in there...

Nice work. Great to see someone thinking outside of the box.

You could use models with no collision boxes and build the tank out of invisible brushes...

tanks would be very big to let people get in it, also i dont think it would be possible to drive a tank in a map without a "pre-defined way in the map" like in dod_donner_tank or flash_tank.

anyway of this is a good idea
