dod_cannons_b2a UPDATE!

I'd like to release b2a test version of my map.
(changelog is below)

There is a lot of things that I have to complete and few problems but meanwhile try this map and please if there will be any problem or any suggestion post it here.

Easy Company drops into Normandy, France. Almost all the troops miss their drop zones and are scattered from Carentan to Ravenoville. Easy Company's first objective is to take out a German artillery installation at Brecourt Manor, a few kilometers north of Ste. Marie-du-Mont..

Allied Primary Objectives:
- Attack and capture all german cannons.

Axis Primary Objectives:
- Defeat the cannons for 10 minutes

Looks nice so far. You may want to hold out on this in case DOD:S is updated to the Episode 2 engine, thereby allowing smoother outdoor areas. The only bad thing I can say about anything is that you used Arial in your video. :P

Alright, doom and gloom from Wile ;)

The cannon prop you are using.... Not sure WHY, but when you detonate / destroy it, it turns into a physics prop. The effect is quite comical, the cannon bounces about 40 feet into the air and seems to have the mass of a cardbord box.

Spawns have no protection whatsoever. This is bad. You can literally walk right into the enemy spawn.

Speaking of spawns, I hope they are advancing spawns for the allies . Not sure of the best way to handle that yet, what I am sure of is that is one heckuva distance to travel to die.

Map itself looks good, I didn't notice any real slowdown in performance no matter where I was or I was looking. Would like to try it on a server sometime, would also like to see further versions of this.

I like your map :D

Personally I think you should rename it to dod_brecourtmanor or dod_brecourt_manor. But that is just me.

The Brecourt Manor building does not look like the real one... try and have a look here.

Yes that screens are old and my PC isn't as good as I need to be. :))
Try this map and please post your average FPS if u want. ;)

We tried to play this map last night but only 4 people could join, 2 on each team. Please add some more spawnpoints.

After you add spawn points, also change the gun model. They look like they would have looked good in the old DoD, but in Source they are funny...also take note of Wile E.'s comments regarding detonation.

Keep the name cannons. Simple names are good. I want to try it again, so keep up the good work and keep us updated.

Tomorrow's update:

- 17 Spawnpoints added on each side (6 allied spawnpoints will be situated near the alliedside farm.

- cannons doesn't fly anymore :)

- used new hedge models made by Surgeon (Thanks to Hintzmann)

- field models shadow disabled

- added few trees

This cannon model is good but needs better textures.
PS: there isn't better 105mm cannon model...

We played this last night for an hour, we really enjoyed it. A few things that would really help:

Overview map (essential for a huge map like this)
New Models. I think the guns from dod_strand are a closer match (assuming Band of Brothers was accurate)
Spawn protection
Perahaps an advancing spawn, after 2 targets are destroyed. It's a long way to run to die.

Friday update (30.11.2007)

- advancing spawns (simple but effective trigger_teleport activated
on bomb exploded = first cannon has to be destroyed)
- spawn protection
- overview map

Hey chap,

Notice you tried to replicate the barn in Band Of Brothers. I was a German extra in the ep's, we filmed at a place called Pippingford park in England. Here is an aerial view of the barn used in the series... __&encType=1

the barn was also used in the film "Fly boys".
