UPDATE!
i got a new version of the french resistance fighter ready. i redid the normalmap and some of the model geometry to fix issues i found while playing. one of the changes is the brown leather jacket and an overall brighter look, mainly to make it less confusable with the axis model/skin.
for those who liked the black version more, it's also in the pack.

use the download and picture links from below. i updated them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
old post:

i've been working on a custom player model lately and i think it has gotten to a stage where i can release a first version.

luckily, trp. jed has released an amazing Custom player model compile kit (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74832) a while ago, so it wasn't to much work on the technical side. thanks again for your contribution, jed!

so here's my first custom player model ever. it's a french resistance fighter that replaces the currently wounded allied rifleman for a while.

let me know what you think :)

-----------------------------
from the readme:

model: french resistance fighter (version 4)
entity type: player model
directory: player
model: american_rifleman.mdl
pc: lod0=3602, lod1=2682, lod2=1576, lod3=794, lod4=293
skin: brown 2048×1024
skin: black 2048×1024
normalmap: 512×512
exponentmap: 256×256
phong: yep
instructions: unpack the materials and models folder to your dod-folder (i.e. c:/programs/steam/steamapps/your@email.com/day of defeat source/dod)
notes: this is a replacement model for the american rifleman. if you have any custom models installed, make sure you backup the american rifleman models. the american rifleman textures are not overwritten, so you don't have to worry about them. and yes, the model works online. to get the black leather skin working, rename "frenchfighter_black.vtf" to "frenchfighter.vtf".
special thanks: trp. jed for the custom player model kit he kindly provided to the community. it really was easy with this.

this is how he looks:

oboy.

I SHOULD have mentioned this when I tested it for you awhile back, I apologize, my life got busy and I forgot about it.

Be warned, using this skin it is VERY easy to confuse this resistance guy with the axis players with only a split-second glance. It probably should have a more definitive color scheme to the clothing - i.e. make his jacket more brown (leather), make the pants khaki, etc. When I was testing this skin, my friendly kills went up by a third while on allied teams.

I'll drop ya a PM pedro

Yeah, I guess that also depends on what Axis skins you're using though. Maybe change the color of the pants to a more light brown, like you said.

Also, ped, beautiful piece of work. I love everything you make, and this is definitely included.

yeah, definitely depends on what axis skin you're using. i'm playing with your greyish axis-skin (http://www.wiledod.com/source/web/playerskins.jpg) and had no trouble to find the frenchie. infact, i was rather surprised you could spot him out from the others. he definitely looks skinnier than those fat germans :-P. but i'll do another skin which is easier to spot, so people can choose which one they like. thanks for the pointer :)

The progression of the preview picture says it all...

Anyway, good model! I hope you have some other player models under consideration!

yeah it would be cool to make like a pack for different allies for each american class, like a brit, a freedom fighter, a russian, and a stock american...
