A year and a half overdue, huh? Well, hopefully this will be the last beta before I finalize it and hopefully that will come about much quicker this time.

The first and most obvious change is the new winter theme. That came about because I was too stubborn to redesign the water out of my map... fortunately, ice is simply a texture and speeds up the performance of the map significantly. The map now has a chilly, early morning feel... complete with snow flurries :)
Other changes include:
-Extensive optimization/higher FPS
-Better lighting effects
-More natural displacement modifications
-A few minor layout changes
-Some new props and eye candy
-A MINI MAP (working on this now)
Expect the release sometime soon. I still have a fix list I'm working through right now... just looking at the screens, I can see a few little details I already want to touch up on. Any help distributing the release would be greatly appreciated, just PM me if interested. Thank you!
UPDATE 11/2/07 - New screens... look below!

Nice! I wasn't crazy about you dropping the rain, but looking at the screenshots - it looks great. Plus, we can (and will) play the rainy version any time we like :)
This will be perfect for the next FNF SnowDay.

I like that fog, it fits in nicely. Not much of a farm silo fan, feels 1.3 ish really. You could probably get away with a nice tower instead. Some examples of fortified farms can be found scattered around Europe.
Or make that silo a model, which will allow you to detail it a lot more, and probably save FPS.
Hey good to hear, Ok Comp is back. I really appreciate your map, i have played it on a full 32 slots server and it was great. But I just think that the firsts flags are too close from the spawn exits.
Keep going !

I will admit, being my first map there are quite a few details and brushwork here and there that I still consider elementary that have just kind of survived for one reason or another. The silo is a good example of this, and I'm glad you've pointed it out because I would have probably gotten lazy with it and let it slide. I do like the idea of a less generic, more detailed silo/tower, maybe one Axis soldiers could get into. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with modeling and a little short on free time, so I'll have to undertake this task with brushwork. Thanks for the advice!

You lying SOB. You told me you were shrinking Harvest down to be a smaller map. This looks like you did what Hawk said you were doing right after the release of b1. Hopefully the snow flurries end up being as good a mood setter as the rain and fog was.
Really anticipating both this and your yet-to-be-renamed Mediterranean map. Also, remember that we still have our DoD:S server for you to playtest on if need be.

LOL, thanks Unruly. I didn't realize you visited these forums! Yeah, I changed my mind on that one; I temporarily shelved the "new Harvest" project after I realized how much demand there was for an updated version of the original. That project wasn't very far along, but it'll likely get spun off into its own project with a different name at some point (I've considered making it a CS:S map due to its size). I might get the clan together to do some playtesting and take some action screenshots of the map... thanks for reminding me buddy.

Heh, I actually just started visiting these forums because I've decided that I want to try my hand at mapping.
I guess you just decompiled a copy of b1 and started working with it since you had your HD go, eh? Really hoping you flesh out the chateau again since Hawk seemed really happy about how it looked when you gave him that sneak peak a while back.
Personally I still miss b0 with its purple water and windows, and those little glitchy spots.

I thought the map layout was pretty good and it seemed to play well as far as that was concerned. I look forward to the changes in b2.

hey comp. have always really liked this map, but felt like the entire barn was way too big. And while i know there are some huge barns out there in real life, it doesnt seem real in DOD. the size of the thing also makes that sniper spot in the loft pretty awkward....
Im excited to play this map with a better fps and all.
... but... it's ... not harvest season.

Thanks for the advice! I agree with you, the barn was way too big. I thought it was impressive back when I started out, but in hindsight it has a very generic appearance and also feels much too large. Although I felt like the map was on the heels of release, I've gone back to make further changes, this being one of them.

Thought I'd throw in a few before and after shots! Any and all advice/criticism would be great!

Beta 1 barn (http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/5290/beta1barnzn7.jpg)
Beta 2 barn (http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/7366/beta2barndo2.jpg)
As previously pointed out in this topic, the original barn had a kind of fat, simplistic, almost cartoon-like look to it. While it may not be immediately obvious, the new barn has a more proper scale (each floor is now the more natural 128 grid units) and a less simplistic appearance. I was experimenting with the square grain silo... I'm not sure how I necessarily feel about it, I'd like some opinions on it. The loft is no longer accessible, but in its place, the silo makes a fairly decent sniper/mg spot.
Beta 1 chateau (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6707/beta1chateaunz1.jpg)
Beta 2 chateau (http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/9328/beta2chateauoe4.jpg)
The original chateau (a sort of nod to the old cs_estate map in layout) was, in my opinion, what I consider a "boring rectangle house." Sometimes rectangle houses are okay, but with the title CHATEAU, we kind of imagine something a little more... stately. So I studied a few pictures of French chateaus and this was the end result... something I feel a bit more proud of.
Anyway, I'm still going to say that I'm on the heels of release, but I still have some loose ends to tie up. I'm really eager to get this one out the door because I feel like my other project, the yet-to-be-named, 95% completed map formerly known as dod_napoli, is a much stronger effort that I'm excited to share with the community... and I know if I don't finish Harvest now I might never do it!
It all looks a lot better.
For that chateau building, some texture variation or decals are what it seems like it needs to me.

I really like the new look and the new access to the silo but I am disappointed to hear the loft is now unaccessible. Any chance of getting access to it again at some stage? It was a nice place to snipe from...
