hi there since I've almost finished this map I thought I'd share some pic before final release (just for teasing)

(general lighting has been renewed since those screenshot have been made: it was too dark!)

here's the minimap overview:
http://isa.vince.free.fr/dod_source/dod_tarmac/dod_tarmac_final_overview.jpg

I took dod_flugplatz's general layout to inspire me for this map ...

there is a underground sewer level that goes from left to right under the central tarmac area with a capflag

entrance on allies right side:
http://isa.vince.free.fr/dod_source/dod_tarmac/dod_tarmac_b30021.jpg

entrance from 3rd flag (behind the elevator):

http://isa.vince.free.fr/dod_source/dod_tarmac/dod_tarmac_b30041.jpg

an airstrike can be called on activating the radio in the axis tower control (bombs drop on the plane middle flag.. so you have to watch out!!).
http://isa.vince.free.fr/dod_source/dod_tarmac/dod_tarmac_b30051.jpg

BUT the incoming plane can be shot down by activating the aircraft gun on allies side... no bombing then!

Hey ! It looks nice, you could add some displacements and some destroyed buildings.. Imao it seems a bit to clean.

Your layout sounds good, have you done any playtest yet ?

P.S: your sentry box (http://isa.vince.free.fr/dod_source/dod_tarmac/dod_tarmac_b30045.jpg) is not bad but take a look at THIS (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74233)

Beau boulot, bon courage pour la suite !

lol in fact since the screenshots where made I found those models too and replaced my sentry box by his models they are just too cool!!

playtest has been done a will ago and was nice. (on 405th server)

I know the map is maybe a little "too clean" but I'm really not good at making displacement I just don't manage to make them work properly!! this is my first map ever! so I can't have every thing good on first shoot can I? looool
=>on my next map I promise I will learn displacement ;)

and I can't use gravel models because they don't look good regarding the textures I used.

Merci pour les compliments

Arf, the .dem can't be watched without the map. Have you done any video?

yodapower

oups I'm so very sorry I thought it could be watched without the map... well too bad no I've got no videos from it....

and I haven't got the version of the map the .dem was made on....

sorry for that.

I'll make a video with fraps and put it for dl so people can "walk through" the map

ok more updates pics...

finishing the displacement... this is just toooooo long!

I've got the feeling the FPS are going down when it comes to displaying displacement brushes is it just my imagination?

here's the link:

before changes:

with the changes made:

Use pakrat

By the way your map looks good... love to playtest it.

you don't need to embed the custom content into the bsp, you can just using winrar/zip and use the folder system dod source uses to place the custom content in the right places, works just aswell.

sly assassin: would you mind giving me more info on this method...?

I've been using pakcrat and bspzip but I can't figure out how to make them work properly....

i.e.
You simply put the items in their folders inside the DOD:S folder.

A player model for the axis goes here:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\*****\day of defeat source\dod\models\player

etc, etc.

However, Packing them into the BSP is usually preferred because is makes downloading in-game from servers that much less problematic.

Another way that works perfectly for me except for maphtml and flag icons...

Extremely handy and quick to learn.

Looking good, yoda :)

you don't need to embed the custom content into the bsp, you can just using winrar/zip and use the folder system dod source uses to place the custom content in the right places, works just as well. The map html files work without being embedded in bsp with all sv_pure settings.
Other custom files are fine on sv_pure 0 or sv_pure 1 servers with a tweaked whitelist file. However, sv_pure 2 servers may not permit the custom files and you get a purple mess. The anvil series is a prime example :(

albatros: been trying with MAN also but not as handing as I thought.... I'm sorry but english is NOT my native language and although I understand it properly, using technical terms in those softwares for packing files sometimes confuses me....

by the way.... I've re installed steam on a new computer and dl sdk

BUT for some reason I cannot launch hammer anymore.... it only offers me Team Fortress 2 for set up??? I've looked every where and changed the gameinfo files to set the ID of the game config to 300 (dod source) and added the dod source info but it still won't work....

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP

I cannot reopen my vmf file to check my custom content!!!! since Hammer won't launch!!!!

I'm beeing CURSEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!! snif

I'll never be able to release my first (and last?) maaaaaaaaaaap

Did you remember to put in "-engine ep1" in the launch options?

yodapower
02-04-2008, 07:45 AM
punishment=> ... I think I love you!!!!!!

lol thks m8 that's what I forgot to do... I new since the last update there was something to do with the launch option but didn't find the code....

hope it works again wil try tonight.....tell you tomorrow.....

yodapower

ok so adding "-engine ep1" in the launch options enables me to select dod source in the menu of SDK

BUT still Hammer doesn't launch: "cannot find the gameinfo.txt "... strange as I DID modifiy the file... must be missing something.. is it something to do with Windows VISTA bugging?

could anyone send me his gameinfo.txt file and tell me in which folder to put it I would be VEEEEEEERY gratefull!!

thks
