what tool do you use to make the flags work?

dod_control_point is the flag (entity)
dod_control_point_master is what controls the flags and game timer (entity)
dod_capture_area is what u make the brush around the controlpoint, i use the trigger texture for this brush so i can see through it. (brush) use ctrl +t to make it a dod_capture_area

Do you have a control point master? If you don't the flags won't show up.

Try watching old war films or documentaries to try and get a feel for atmosphere. Then lay out some ideas on paper until you get an idea you think will work. Then go from there.
