I was wondering if anyone with the skills and time would be willing to make a Pz-Kw 5 (Panther) Tank for me and the general dod custom mapping community in large?

I'm wanting to use one or more of these sweet babys in my map but lack the skills and time to learn modelling at the moment (Work and kids are killing me in this area :( )

Some information links below

http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panth2.htm

Thanks to anyone who takes a crack at this

I tried contacting the RO devs to see if they'd send me the originals for a source compile for private use, but it's been almost a year and no response, and since that's the only bet you'd get at getting one, it'll have to be totally custom.

There was a guy working on Jagdpanther (I know, not the same thing), that looks pretty cool....

Which Sly Assassin already seems to know of since he posted in that topic. :P

Yup very true ;) Already bugged the fella and given him some more motivation :)

I know making a vehicle or tank in this case is very time consuming, but hey it's got to be better then the 10 millionth remake or a kar98 ;)

Yep, I just really wish I could somehow port the RO models, but the way you can do it in other Unreal games doesn't work right. :(

I did find a site that offered a premade Panther modeled in 3ds max for sale at $30 US but I don't have that kind of cash to spend on a model or the need to spend it either. And it would have to be optimized for source as I think it's around 30-40k polys etc :(

Poly count would be fine, unless you were thinking of adding, like, 3 of them to the map. Did you find it on Turbosquid? I hate that you have to pay for models, but I guess it did take work to make 'em, so might as well make some money.

hell 30-40k polys on one model would hurt unless it was in an area well sealed off from seeing other areas and didn't get alot of traffic.

The Tiger tank currently in dod is around 10-11k polys and that hits some people's systems hard.

Sly Assassin looks at Trp.Jed to see if he's got a panther hidden in his treasure chest off goodies.

I seriously don't know what system everyone here is running, but you guys complain about counts that high like it's the plague. Seriously, I can run fine with two 60k Alyx models on the screen, which is why I said one, if it's 30/40k would be fine. However, more would kill a system.

I'd like to try my hand at the model, but the texture I couldn't guarantee. But I'm a newbie in either field, really, so I'd encourage anyone with some real skills to take this on too.

Not that one, but I started a Jagdpather ages ago which has shares a fairly common chassis.

Yeah thats you and your sytem. Try and remember that these models are used in maps that need to be able to run smoothly on everybodys system. How populer is a map going to be if a mapper has to put in the readme that it requires at mnimum a Quad-core processor and an 8800 graphics card with 1Gb of RAM?

You simply don't need that much physical detail in a prop model as a) normal maps were invented specifically for the purpose of detailing without polys and b) when its in game, 99% of people aren't walking around taking in the scenery.

Good start, I know there's another panther underway aswell. So two can't hurt :)

Also I know of a Jagdpanther near release ;)
