An interesting debate:

I'm interested to see what Wile thinks since every player model helmet he's skinned for DoD:S has been green.

Well I read that page, and most of those arguments are silly.

M1 Helmet. There isn't much question about it. They were green. Period. Some were darker green than others, but green none-the-less. I would love to see the documentation people are referring to when they say the M1 helmet was brown. Its' predecessor, the M1917A1, may have been brown sometimes, but not the M1.

German boot being brown. Boots were issued in the natural state of leather brown. Troops had to MAKE them black with black boot polish. From what I understand after 1943 the Heer discontinued issuing boot black (due to war shortages) so it is doubtful tons of it made it's way to the front lines. HOWEVER, there is a real purpose to that stuff. You use boot polish OR boot grease on boots to help protect them and make them water resistant. It is quite likely that even though the troops did not have boot black anymore they would probably use anything else (axle grease, etc.) to weatherproof their boots, and this would make them look darker. The boot I see in the R&L screenies look like they just cam out of the box - but the theory behind it is right at least.

I can assure you both my helmets (Fixed Bale, Front Seam Pre '43 and Swivel Bale, Front Seam Post '43) are both Green. Even the liners are green on the out side.
