As a fun thing to do for a friend I added Skeletal parts to all the default DoD models to create an army of Skeleton soldiers... There is a pack for the Axis-inf, Axis-para, Brit-inf, US-inf, and US-para... They're nothing too fancy, but they look cool ingame ...

Instead of blood and guts maybe you could rip up and dirty the clothes. give them that just came outta the ground look. If any of you have seen that cartoon Heavy Metal it had a scene with exactly this type of thing.
I mostly play DOD at night in the AM in my dark room. no way in hell I'm downloadin' freakin' skeletons.

I'll have a go at them this weekend.. I was just waiting for Devin Kryss' approval to use his models... He was kind enough to say "yes" so I can get started...
ZUZU... Thanks man that is really cool..
...
Cool, Effexx. I certainly hope he gives you the go ahead on this.
Hey ZuZu, this is great man. Really creepy. Someone should do a dark, creepy map of some sorts. Then use the fog effect. If effexx can do the undead trenchcoat dudes, then they would be great for that.
Sixth Army revived or something. I don't know. But this damned cool :D

OK.. I have the Trenchcoats with Skeleton parts done... sort of.. Here's the deal... I like the effect of the helmet flying off during a headshot, but Devin's pack had permanent helmets... So I hackjobbed it some more to have separate helmets... I noticed the there are 3 different helmet styles, and 6 different body styles... The problem I'm having is matching up the proper helmets with the proper body type... Is there a trick to editing the .QC so the proper helmet matches up with the right body??? Example... the Sniper never has his Sniper helmet, and the Stosstruppe never gets the helmet with the chinstrap up... I thought, at first, it was a simple matter of matching the helmet with the body line for line but that doesn't work.. Anyone?? I'd really like to keep the removable helmets...
here's what it looks like now..
// reference meshes
$bodygroup body
{
studio "axis_k98_ref"
studio "axis_k43_ref"
studio "axis_medium_ref2"
studio "axis_heavy_ref"
studio "axis_mg_ref"
studio "axis_sniper_ref"
}
$bodygroup helmet
{
studio "Axis-Helmet"
studio "Axis-K43Helmet"
studio "Axis-SniperHelmet"
blank
blank
blank
blank
blank
}
$bodygroup head
{
studio "Axis-Head0"
studio "Axis-Head0"
studio "Axis-Head0"
studio "Axis-Head0"
studio "Axis-Head0"
studio "Axis-Head0"
blank
}
any thoughts will be appreciated... thanks..
...
Way over my head. Sorry, lol.
Surely someone else could help though.. right?
Devin Kryss

Yah damn right someone can help.
Ok, heres the deal Effex. LIke you pointed out, there are 4 styles of headgear for SSv4, hat, helmet, chinstrap up helm, and sniper helm. The default has only 2 style,s hat and helm. The Defaults have a bunch of hair modles too. when you shoot a guy in the head, it changes the submodle from the helemt/hat to a specific har model. the hair to match the head model its using. So, you cant use all 4 of the headgear types from SSv4. Gotta pick 2. Just use what the default qc file gives yah if you want to see flying headgear. And hey, ever consider making the skull fly off with the helmets by putting them into the submodel for headgear?
Alright! Hopefuly this will now mean a quick and expediant release of them ^_^

Ok.. that sort of sucks about only getting to use 2 styles of helmets, but at the same time you have given me a couple ideas... I could permanently mount the proper helmet to the proper player body as the head model.. Then when a headshot occurs the entire head is instantly replaced by the appropriate "hair" which would actually be a hairless skull to match the one that is gone... it would be seamless and invisible to the player that way, and still pull off the effect I want.. Damn.. I just got to work, and can't wait to get home to test this out.. Thanks again Devin...
Sit tight Wren.. almost done...
...
Sweet. Can't wait. So close, I can smell it ^_^

06-13-2003, 02:56 PM
Ok Wren & ZUZU... here ya go...
I had to compromise on the helmet issue a little.. My earlier idea didn't work as planned (see above)... As is the case, the Medium, and Sniper helmets do not fly off for headshots... All the other classes helmets do... I've also included the appropriate helmet/hat files ( for once they come off) necessary to complete the illusion..
Thanks to Devin for the use of his models..

Question, are the first person hand models skeleton too? i sure hope so, would ruin the whole thing if the outside models are skeletons and the first person hand models are regular fleshy hands

Sorry bud... I opted not to do that because everyone has their favorite weapon models, and adding the skeletal hands in first person mode would make is so you had to use whatever weapon models I chose...
This does give me another idea though... Didn't Trigger whip up some hand models a little while ago that people could compile into their V models?... I should do that to... That way people have the option of using skeleton hands...

Yah, I just use the default models, only thing keeping me from getting the skeleton models is that the hands would still be fleshy, which would be no fun.
I think there great .
If Devin makes his SS troops I'm hoping he could yous your heads
But I do miss his MG gunner with the blood running down his face

You guy's really should get together with some Mappers and make a "DOD ARMY OF DARKNESS" MOD.
This rock's!! I can see it a Hill type map with a old Church on the top of the hill with a grave yard tanks burning even some of the tanks could be spawning points for the dead Axis . to cool!!
I prefer Day of the Dead ^_^
Its been a long time since I played after midnight that was fun
with the new patch 1.0b and these skull soldires I cant stop playing:D
Is there a way to put the KAR skin back in ?
I like the rolled up slives showing his arms.

I did the sleeves rolled up for the Riflemen just for you.. I won't release as a pack.. Let's just call it a minor alteration as a personal gesture of good faith from one DoDer to another.. lol
After all.. How could I deny you that which you love so dearly.. lol.. I'll PM you with the download link...

Heh... that "little something" I mentioned earlier up this thread had it's first ingame trial to check vertex alignments, and stuff... I can say that it looks promising, but still needs some work... separate classes, gear, the whole works... I'm borrowing content from another source so as usual It won't get released here, but when the time comes I'll let you know where to go... I've taken to calling the project "Army of the Undead"... LOL... If you like the Skullhead stuff, then this will be right up your alley...
