Meh, I hate the way the default looks, so I did this one. I also made a destroyed (which I like) and a snow version (which I hate and probably won't release :( ) which I hope to release as a pack, maybe with my new Tiger tank reskins and I might just do a vehicle/weapon (aka 88 and Pak stuff) reskin pack and release it.
Well, here's the Sherman, which I hope you guys like. Custom phong by moi and if there's anything that bugs you, just tell me and I'll see what I can do. Comments appreciated.

Phong looks better ingame than in the MV shots, as with most stuff.

a little to clean/uniform for my taste. maybe add some dirty or rusty parts?
not sure about the color. i think it looks a tad to blue...
how does the color look besides the halftrack and the jeep?

Dirt and rust I could do. Also, I think any blue would simply be the highlights from the phong, cause I desatted all the way before coloring with only green. I haven't tested right next to a track or jeep, but I could do that later.
Edit: Here's an ingame shot from Nightingale, maybe that can show you a bit more of the texture, although the lighting on this map isn't that awesome for simply skin tests, but the map is amazing.

I also agree that a little war torn would be nice, but it does look better than the default. What's the res on it anyway?

4096x2048 (because of the texture i used and to get that little text to look good) but I could release as both default (2048) and this. I'll see what I can do about wartorn looks later, could you take the pics from the first post and circle areas that should look dirty?

Awww man, why'd you have to go ask me. I'm do as I say, not as I do person. :p
I'll try to point out some stuff. But the first thing that I can think of, would be the tracks, the wheels, and maybe the parts of the tank near the track. Start with that.
Oh, and maybe make the exhaust hole (on the back right side?) have some more black around the hole leading up maybe?
Another thing, open up pedro's skin in PS (if that's what you are using) and maybe use his color off of his truck, because I can verify that in game they look great.

I'll see what I can do. I can't guarantee anything tonight, though, cause I hate opening PS now cause it slows down my comp, but I'll take into account places that might get dirtied.

Oh, now that you have me on a roll, the tracks look like they are plastic, like something off of today's modern excavators. Maybe try to get them to look more metallic? Not sure how difficult that is. I have some pretty decent experience with PS, but not with skinning, more or less rendering.

Meh, that actually motivates me to go back over the tracks completely. I, too, hate how they look, because I simply went over them with a dark gray brush and lowered the opacity to get them off the normal look. I can go over them again to get them to look like they have dirt in the crevices like this:

I simply didn't wanna put much effort into them anyway.
Also, this was kinda pointless anyway (even though I'll keep going with it) because I usually don't stop to look at tanks in the game, and the Tiger is used so much more than the the Sherman, so meh.

I would personally love it if you would keep going with this. In one map that I have been working on I have 4 or 5 Shermans coming over a hill.
Just keep going forward with it. If you are interested in any help, let me know. I could use some practice with skinning. Any chance you could send me your .psd file so I can look at it and maybe make suggestions?
I would just make sure that it looks good before releasing a version. We all know what happens when people preemptively release stuff and how receptive people are to that.

Yeah, I know, but I'm gonna continue because most servers I've been on still allow custom stuff and don't really take advantage of the new stuff.
If you want to continue using your custom stuff, there's nothing else I can suggest but find a new server. :(

If I may again suggest that modelers put together relevant whitelist
sections pertaining to their models/skins and include them in a readme in the download files and/or supply them to server admin running sv_pure 1.
If the modelers arent willing to do this, then they will have to be patient out of necessity until the latest Source update can be figured out. Its not even been a week man.

server ops feel the same about custom skins and models ;)
The last update has some pros and cons and getting it to work to everyone's satisfaction is going to take some effort.
It may just wind up that sv_pure 0 will be the pub server norm and sv_pure2 for matches. If you see f64, be sure to thank him for going through ALL the folders and figuring out how to allow custom content.

I realize you're trying to provide the best of both worlds i.e. allowing most custom contest while keeping the bad stuff out. The reason I meantioned Sunlit above is because it's a popular server and other servers might use your list (they'll block what you block).
I was merely informing him that some servers will block it, so he can decide to keep going or not.
My previous post in this topic was not meant as a jab towards Sunlit (or any server for that matter) at all.

Alright, alright. So I lied about the weekend. However, I did open it up and try out a new rust technique, but I personally don't like it so I'll have to work on it some more.
I'm also attempting to get the Tiger tank to have an authentic look and color scheme, so I may wait and release them all together.
My holiday break is next week, and I'm getting a tablet, which should help with the camo pattern. So, look for it next week?
