This is my first Day of Defeat Source map. And so far, I love mapping for DoD source, the detail props are awesome. This map was kind of a test/practice map. I wanted to try out flashy's tree pack (the trees are really good, non-expensive rendering) I also wanted to practice my displacment skills.

Here are some pics

I still have a few things to finish, like cleaning up the bunkers, fixing my flag problem, adding more trees, making a 3D skybox and doing an HDR compile (if I think it is neccesary)

This will not be my last forest project, I will be doing many more. Also, keep an eye out for the finished version today, or tommorow.

I am open to critism, as long as you keep it clean, and you are not trying to offend me.

JK, looks interesting, I am just curious how the FPS are with it being so open. I would also like to see bigger screenshots, but that's just me. I look forward to the first version. Comments will follow after running around in it.

The map is fairly open, it is more like a battlefield style map, and my FPS is usally average, as I said..the trees are fairly inexpensive in terms of FPS. It usally stays around 30-40 fps.

Hi hypnotoad,

GJ, keep up the good work!!! Here you can download 5 flags template I use it all the time. Just copy over to your map and move it to the location.

Hope this helps or if you have any question just post here and someone will assist you.

I have HDR compiled the map (which has somehow increased FPS!?)

Anyway, now I am having trouble with packrat, could somebody send me a tutorial for packrat please?

Were you compiling using the fast settings before? A full compile will always increase FPS because VIS is calculated properly so this would probably explain the FPS increase.

As for pakrat, it's very easy to use with it's handy Auto button which will automatically embed any custom content you've used. Then manually adding the minimap or whatever is pretty simple, you just need to make sure that the path is correct - sometimes you need to click edit and manually fix up the path, ie. it will default to your documents folder or something, so click edit and change the path so it is correct, ie. resource/overviews.

Hopefully this makes a bit of sense :-/
