animation smd decompile

So a simple question.. Maybe I've misunderstood the placement of animation smd's but every time I decompile a DoD model I get no animation smd(s) and I need them. Are they linked to the rig independently (ie do I need to make new animations for my model)

I'm trying to reskin and use the old anims weighted to the new skin.

Used StudioCompiler:

Got the following files:
AMERICAN_ASSAULT_REFERENCE.SMD
LOD1_AMERICAN_ASSAULT_REFERENCE.SMD
LOD2_AMERICAN_ASSAULT_REFERENCE.SMD
LOD3_AMERICAN_ASSAULT_REFERENCE.SMD
LOD4_AMERICAN_ASSAULT_REFERENCE.SMD
LOD5_AMERICAN_ASSAULT_REFERENCE.SMD
American_Helmet_Reference.smd
Lod1_American_Helmet_Reference.smd
Lod2_American_Helmet_Reference.smd
Lod3_American_Helmet_Reference.smd
Lod4_American_Helmet_Reference.smd
Lod5_American_Helmet_Reference.smd
Lod1_UnknownModelName.smd
Lod2_UnknownModelName.smd
Lod3_UnknownModelName.smd
Lod4_UnknownModelName.smd
Lod5_UnknownModelName.smd
phymodel.smd
ragdoll.smd
UnknownModelName.smd

no animations... Also.. What's the joint inbetween my feet for?
need no help retexturing, I can import just fine, but I'm trying to follow the DoD format exactly which means extracting all I can from the original,

Thanks for any help

I take it not a single person in here has made a custom animation or new player skin ??

The animations are stored in dod_player_shared.mdl not the player model.
