I want to decompil official maps to learn more about optimisation but I cant find them

I read I have to use GCFscape but I dont find the file with the maps

Where is this file and what is her name ??

Assuming you already have GCFScape downloaded, here's what you do.

Open up GCFScape and go to File > Open.

Then browse to your "SteamApps" folder if it doesn't put you there automatically. Usually it's C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps

It should contain a couple of normal folders, plus a whole bunch of files of the format ".gcf"

Double-click to open the one called "Day of Defeat Source"

Then go to dod\maps

All of the stock maps will be in this folder. Right click the one you want to be able to de-compile, and click extract. Choose the directory you want the map to go to and viola!

Flash already has its vmf file available to you if you dont want to decompile the other official maps.

Where are the officials maps ??

The gcf files for Source games are in the SteamApps folder, like Woj said. You browse to dod\maps within the gcf. There you will find the official maps.

Dude, they're not going to be in YOUR maps folder...

Usually it's C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamAppsGet to this point and stop. If you don't see some funky blue/purple icons, then you don't have GCFScape installed or installed properly.

If a language barrier exists then pictures can always get past it:

Then you open the GCF in GCFScape and follow it through to maps:

All the files you want are there.

A GCF file is a compressed file similar to a ZIP or RAR file. The entire game is contained within it. It is located in the "steamapps" folder.

YOU have been looking in the "maps" folder which is just for custom maps. This is wrong

I know alta vista babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) can translate this well enough to be understood.
