ok, it is done!
i spent the last few weeks tuning the models here and there, adding/removing stuff, doing the lods, creating the normalmaps and so forth...

so, here comes the gmc cckw transportation truck.

the package includes 12 model files. (because its 12 models, i hope you understand i don't write down all the lods...)
for reference about the textures and their sizes, see the screenshot below.

enclosed in the zip is a testmap, showing all the models, including a detonation setup of a truck. but you first need to copy the model/materials to the right folder first, they're not packed into the bsp.

thats what they look like:

and thats where you download them:
gmc_cckw_v1.zip (http://pedroleum.dod-federation.com/models/gmc_cckw_v1.zip)

and thats who you/i have to thank for:
wile e coyote, for providing those reference pics, giving input and for checking the model before release
trp. jed, for general answers (and i got lots of questions!), all the good tips, his sweet smd-exporter, the timesaving modelcompiler and for checking the model before release

*phew*

ohyeah, i'll do a burnt out version of the truck soon...
go, mappers, go!!

Ahhh those screenshots really aren't doing them justice! :D

Just look at that snow in the last pic! This is a very nice model, a real first-rate job.

Do I need to say that it actually looks better than the stock halftrack. ;)

The new snow is perfect and I love the canopy. Top notch.

Very nice! The footprints in the snow are great, adds an extra touch to make it more real. Keep up the good work.

I was using a pre-release version of these in my map, and they looked great.

Nice job on the updated version Pedro. Top notch as always.

Bloody H*ll!
I didn't expected these quality models/skins here on this forum made by "amateurs".

This is some nice pro stuff man!

The snow on top of the hood made me drewl, honestly!!!
Btw, did you do (all) the textures, cause I must say...that's a real good skinjob mate.

yes, everything is made by me except the steering wheel and the fuel canister. thats taken slightly modified straight from the halftrack (geometry and texture).
you could almost say i modded the cckw around that canister ;)

This is something I've been meaning to talk about :) Guys like Pedro and I and others can put out some really stunning stuff, but keep one thing in mind; we have no time table. We can take as long as we want, until it's "perfect" in our eyes. Guys doing this for a living don't always have that choice.

Well said.

Also, guys who do this for a living have to optimize their work, so people who blame Valve and other companies for making their textures low-res and stuff need to be quiet, cause they were just doing their job.

Great work ped, I love the snow on the hood and stuff, it looks almost photorealistic.

this is one hell of a nice model man very very nice indeed.....

may I just point out something you might be able to give me an answer to:

I can see clear footprints in the snow at the back of the truck... I suppose this means that soldiers were sitting there and on command had to leap out of the truck to go to combat....

My sneaky question :D :

why is the snow on the edges and not in the middle where it should be????? if soldiers were sitting on the edge.. then snow should fall in the middle... it seems that you made it the other way round.....

just beeing sneaky..... because this model is toooo perfect :p

well, one of the soliders was so fat, they had to shovel him out of the truck !!

no seriousely, i think i thought that when the soldiers stand up they'll have to line up to get out of the truck and that in the middle, the most footsteps would take place... not sure if its how it really is.

there are some other logical "incorrectnesses" i had to accept in order to keep the look. often a totally realistic situation doesn't look as good as a slightly modified reality ;-)
