is there any way to kill this particular entity via a trigger?
so you could make the level suddenly dark?

Expanding that idea if it is possible, why not have multiple light_environments with multiple triggers to simulate the differences in time of day.

no you cant do this. The shadows are not dynamic, they are "baked" into the textures during compile. :(

do people plan to play this long?I mean going from say, early morning to mid afternoon or something. Also, it wouldn't seem to make much sense going from light to immediate dark with the light_environment, maybe with the dynamic lights.

You guys should check this link at VERC. The thread has never died, and never got very very far either

thats a shame i was hoping i would be able to kill them so i could say slowly make a level lighter or darker as ppl cap flags...so when the level is dark and moody, you know axis are winning, lighter and allies are winning.
or set a timer so levels get lighter seeming as if morning is arriving.

Here are a couple of videos that show some dynamic source lighting. One shows the sun moving, the other shows the shadows changing as the sun moves. Maybe it will become a proper feature at some point.
The videos have been sped up to show the change.

Dynamic shadows in multiplayer maps are a big no-no. Even a single one can drop fps by at least 10. There are lights that can be turned on and off. I believe RAD is told by these ents to make two versions of lightmaps in the vicinity of the light. However even if the light_env would do this, it would boost the filesize for the map hugely.
