Pop Up HUD :)

This is one of those stripped right down HUDs... just about all gone.

Normal Playing screen (http://www.dodbits.com/downloads/HUD/Others/Pop_up_hud/dod_kalt0045.jpg)... no kills/deaths, no Object icons...just chat and the capture panel.

That is... gone from the playing screen unless you want it...then you can call it up. It's a bit of a rough job at the moment and no finished files yet... but not many problems running it ATM.

This uses the Minimap panel and the bind "+overview_largemap".

If you use ... bind "mouse4" "+overview_largemap" or any other key/button to that command, press it and you get this confusing mess at the moment (http://www.dodbits.com/downloads/HUD/Others/Pop_up_hud/dod_kalt0032.jpg). Lift your thumb off the button... the clear screen is back.

I will make different versions because some people just can't play without looking at kills deaths, object icons :rolleyes: ...mostly the chat has all I need, I can fake the rest.

On a friendly fire server it does get a bit embarrassing if you kill a teammate and not say sorry.

There are little bits and pieces to clean up like the bottom bar on the spectator screen had to be sliced (http://www.dodbits.com/downloads/HUD/Others/Pop_up_hud/Spec_chat.JPG)and I don't have time to complete all of it this week.

But a few variants of this may work quite well :) If you have an idea of what should and should not be on either screen post below!

Give me an idea for a layout and I will spit out a version next week.

Ideas I already have is to make a very visible health bar... but on the minmap screen, delete the stamina bar and just have the turtle pop up same for the MG heat/fireselect on the playing screen.

After playing with this for about 15 mins... I like it, it grows on you.

EDIT: forgot to add... yes...you can be running along with this, and shoot at the same time while viewing all the pop-up stuff. It comes with my standard menu so you can adjust the minimap transparency up and down...player names...tracks...rotate...teammate health.

How do kills pop up? That is something that is good to know :) maybe a quick pop and slow fade? And something a little more eye catching for personal kills?

I like where this is going though...would be great for all games! It is the TRUE "No Bull**** HUD". ;)

They display in the normal way but only display when you call up the minimap in the toggle full map mode...."+overview_largemap"

A hud item can go on either screen. I think a fade is possible but only on the mimimap screen. But this function is just for a quick look at items and then let go and back to a clear screen.

Nice work Insane! I have a suggestion but it isn't along the lines of your 'pop up' version. I was thinking of a opacity option that would adjust the overall opacity of the HUD. You could make a button in the class select screen that would either increase or decrease the overall opacity by 10%. Just a thought.

Now that would be a nice option, even for the standard hud.

I am not sure that is possible for a normal hud given how all the separate files work... I will take a look anyway. Aways pays to follow up the more "out there" ideas, some turn up gold :)

yeah show kills and deaths but in small text with no background and stick it in the top right hand corner (default) i don't use minimap. If its a new custom map i dont know i just use the big map to get my bearings. also i notice i took the health bar out, anyway to put a small one into the graphic? I run at 1440x900 and want things as small as possible

That would be really cool, though i don't see a healthbar, and the names of people getting killed and stuff. I wan't those, but not with the huge weapon icons and all that.

Well... I started to do some work on this and came up with another HUD type. I will still do the pop-up one or work some options in to this one...

Here are some more screenshots ... 1024x768 cap-out on my det test map (http://dodbits.com/images/stories/Hud_stuff/others/miniright_mp44.jpg) and a large widescreen 1680x1050 (http://dodbits.com/images/stories/Hud_stuff/others/miniright_wide.jpg) (warning large image 0.5 mb) cap-out on donner. I'll play with this a little more and see what options I can squeeze in to this. There will be two types standard dod:s colors with standard icons and a black version with swastika icons.
