Well I hope Im not "posting out of turn"
Propaganda has released the final version of expire
It was always gorgeous but WOW! He did a fantastic job of optimizing the fps even with 20 players.

Good job Propaganda. Your fans know they can find your maps at Sunlits anytime

Till I quit drinking....

Thank you Rosie for posting the release, thanks for hosting the file, and for the playtest. The map runs 20-30 fps higher then it did. Here are some of the changes:

-Removed alot of props and detail, frame rates are now as good as donner or better
-Brightened it up a bit
-Put in a shadow contoller to remove yellow shadows
-removed working door on ruined house near cafe
-closed the backyard path from the cafe to the tavern to create more of a choke point and tighten the map up
-made one way paths to two ways ie; center paths to tank could only be used by advancing teams now both teams can use path. also the one way paths in tunnels coming out of spawns have ladders so players can get up them

Thanks to Ranson for the plane models.

Now I go work on Ham and Jam maps. Thanks to everyone.

Yeah , you wouldnt want to have to register at SunLits. Hell no!
They've just been supporting the HL engine custom community for 6 years. Sorry to have been such a disservice all this time.
Must be a conspiracy ;)
GGI hear if you register there they steal your first born son. Seriously.

*edit* horrible download link to map and screenshots removed

You know guys, I realize some of you hate to register to download anything, but Sunlits is providing a service to the community and it's one of the few places you can go and find loads upon loads of DOD source maps. Rosie spends alot of time loadings maps, posting screens, etc etc and IMO if there's any place that someone should check out it's Sunlits. You only have to register once.

You only have to register once.....and it's not bloated like some of the sites that you don't have to register at. Some of these sites are so hard to navigate or whatever else. Rarely do I need to download something, but if you don't feel like registering to download, just keep the comments to yourself, or wait until someone else posts a mirror, because surely more than one person does, sometimes including myself.

Be thankful there are people out here that are doing what they can to support the dying DoD:S community, because if they choose to stop helping out, good luck getting anything.

I don't want to register just to download the map....BTW, aren't you one of those guys who supports the [Q] or whatever servers, the servers that redirect everyone 400 times because the servers are all filled with bots?

Have to say, I signed up at Sunlits and haven't regretted it. I just wish my ping was better at their game servers :(

It's especially useful when looking for custom maps, as they're playtested and rated!

P.S. Can I pawn my in-laws for some more custom content? :P

Awww well I have to say that Rosie & Sunlit games are the last bastion that DoD players have in this virtual world of CS, WoW, CoD and whatnot, and I'm extremely thankful for their efforts to maintain this game.

You really only have to register *once* - takes you five minutes - and then download - another 2 minutes, probably even another 5 though that's already too much for the real lazy fellas.

Uploading a map, working on a website, preparing a release post and posting it among the forums takes hours. Not to mention the 500 to 700 hours a real clean map with what, 15000 brushes? ... takes to make...

On-topic:

Thanks Propaganda, with the additional FPS the map will be a blast.

Their attention span is all of but 2 seconds. If it takes longer than that to download custom content, god forbid their lives are that much shorter. It's those people who also complain about the lack Valve official releases but are too lazy wait the 2 minutes to download a badass 50mb map, and god forbid it have some other weather besides California sunshine.

P.S. My rant is over.

It's really sad when people start complaining about doing something as simple as registering. You registered here, did you not? So, why not SunLit?

03-06-2007, 03:18 PM
(Shane) Everyone take a chill pill. 1 person made 1 comment about not wanting to register. They were not rude or anything else of the nature (unlike some of the consequent replies).

So, please comment on the map, etc... but drop the dogpiling over ONE comment. Thanks

Thank you Shane, you da man. :D

Its real simple folks, alot of us do not like, want nor feel the need to have to register to a site for a simple download, period. I personally have been playing and enjoying DoD since source came out, and have always done all that I can to help anyone in the community, whenever, and wherever possible. At the ripe young age of 40, I hardly consider myself to be a kiddie.

So bottom line is this. If you wish to *support* Sunlit by registering to download a map, then by all means *support* Sunlit by registering to download a map.

If you simply wish to download the map and begin enjoying yourself, without the need to register somewhere, then by all means click on the links to the mirrors I and some others provide, and there ya go. If you click on a link provided by me, I assure you, that link will take you *directly* to the file youre wishing to download. There are no banners or pop-ups, no registering required, no pleas for donations or anything of the sort.

I can only speak for myself and what I offer. I offer the file, and only the file you are looking for. No special terms or conditions of any kind, just click and go. I do this to actually *help* the community. With my links youll never have to wait in line for a download, register or anything. The reason I do this is because with the provider I have, I always have TONS of available unused bandwidth left over at the end of each month. So I figure what the hell, why let it go to waste.

Now I really do not care if Rosie is actually a female or anything else, I give no special treatment to anyone. She (Rosie) was wrong in her response, as well as just about everyone else there after. If you believe being this negative, and bringing down the thread into the gutters is actually *helpful to the community*, then guys you are sadly mistaken, and seriously need to reconsider that which is right, and that which is wrong. That which is helpful, and that which is not.

Ok, Im getting off my soapbox now, I have much better things to do with my time! :)

Propaganda, sweet little map, thank you for working so hard at producing it. I appreciate your efforts.

FG-

(Shane)Without getting into the merits, pro or con, of your post, I thought I made it clear I wanted this aspect of the discussion to STOP.

So, if you want to start a new thread on the merits (or lack thereof) or having to register to download, please feel free to do so. TBH, it might be an interesting discussion.

But to continue it further here is to:
A. further poison the well
B. draw my wrath because I've (twice now) made it clear I want the griping at each other to stop.

The next post(s) had damn well better be about the map and nothing else.

Hey, so I finally tried it out and it looks great. I have to admit though that I'm missing the path on the side that you removed. Yes it makes the action more centered but I feel it makes the map too narrow...Maybe I played the rc1 version too much and liked it as it was ?!? :D

Formologic23
03-07-2007, 07:25 AM
I hate to say it, but I liked RC1 better, but I like to see a variety of atmospheres. It also does look a lot more plain, as if the people got up and packed all their belongings with them.

I don't have an issue with FPS in DoD:S, so maybe I am a minority here wanting detail. Anyways, great work on both versions, because the latest version does run extremely smooth.

We have no reports of issues at RenegadeHeroes with framerates either. We are sticking with RC1 for the time being and test this one more. I agree with the previous posts, the map is too narrow without the side path, and we love the battles that ensue from there!!! Love the map.
