I have here a smallish arena style map that is textured. I challenge all arena mappers to raise the bar by having a look at this and maybe coming up with some new ideas other then color texture maps. The map is 3 MB bzipped for a fast dl, HDR ready, has a skybox and 32 spawn points (although I recommend no more then 12 on this map). There are 3 flags and a lake, the water is cheap to keep frame rates high. I will also include the vmf file for those mappers who would like to look at it and maybe come up with some new ideas. Please don't steal stuff from the vmf or re-release the map. Here are some screens.

judging by the screenshots it is a very nice map!

I saw this running on your server last night, and for the life of me, I didn't download it. Wish I would have now after seeing the screens. I will give this a shot!

Question, why stop there? It looks like the beginnings of a good map. Kind of has that Holland/Fall-ish/country town look. Nice name though.

Great idea!

It looks like it could be a fun map to play too, but I doubt the makers of "orange maps" will listen to you though. Which of course is a real shame. :(

Would it be possible to have the centre flag a 2 man cap please (as this map seems ideal for those occasions when you only have a few on the server)?

We played it at the 82nd and loved it, just tough enough to cap the center that its not lop-sided.


Was a bit bummed to not find any square corners or orange textures though.................................:)

Possibly yes. Any other thoughts on 3 man vs 2 man cap for center flag? Or time? It's 3 man 5 seconds right now.

A 2 man capture fits nicely when the server has a small amount of people and this map does draw them in. I would wait a while to ensure it catches on with a 2 man...a 3 man might really just fit.;)

Nice map, just enough detail and good gameplay on 32 player servers.

On its first play none of the regs had any negative comments, and thats saying something cos most of them moan, whinge and whine at the slightest things :)

My only thoughts are to change the sightlines from spawn to spawn, to easy to stay near your spawn and snipe the other spawn.

Its an arena style map
excellent fps
small bzip2 for fast downloads
layout promotes immediate interactions
textured
wwII setting
short construction time
NOT orange

What Rosie said. If I do more framerates won't be decent, it's pretty open, and in a lot of ways it is sourcified, there are displacements, a skybox, hdr etc. The point was to make a small arena map that look like WWII and not like cartoons.

I see where Prop is coming from, and I agree with his motives. "Sourcifying" was not his objective here. Drop-dead-gorgeous was not his aim. He was going for a high FPS, small, tight map with good visibility while making as much of a compromise as possible between 1) visual beauty 2) map performance 3) map complexity and 4) keeping it WW2 themed. I feel he accomplished all those goals, and although this type map might not always be my cup of tea I think he did an excellent job. I really don't think it needs "sourcification", it would kind of mute the whole point of the map's creation in the first place.

WTF? It has no "orange" feel to it, its a small map with good gameplay. On a sidenote, last night I played an orange map and noticed something very disturbing, all normal textures block bullets to some degree, the dev texture blocks bullets like jeans block farts. So orange is way bad for any kind of map.

Thoughts I have received from a busy server when this map is on:

My thoughts on this map,besides it being a great fragfest. Would be to try and overcome the ease of spawn camping by giving the spawn areas some more exit points. For example a route to the barns that are level with the bridge.
Might also be good to reduce the bridge cap to two persons and add two more single cap flags to the other two corners.
push some activity out to the edges.

This is TRUE, i knifed a guy from below through the wall/ceiling on orange towers or something , can't remember name, don't really care either. i laughed for a good 5 mins.

But the reason people play orange maps is high fps and fast action. so i like the idea of this wiull give it a go. and i might make one of my own.

There was hardly any teamwork, but who cares when it only takes 5 secs to run from one end to the other. :p I like that it is a 2 man cap now instead of a 3 man. It is equally as difficult.

Good job Prop, for something whipped up in a relatively short time, this is probably going to be pretty popular. Make sure you release it on other forums to get it out there.

We put this map on our server last week. Its an awesome map for those times when theres a small number of ppl on. The only thing I would ask to change is some better spawn protection. That was the only bad remark ppl had. Other than that it perfect. Small file, looks/plays smooth, easy on the FPS... GJ

If you changed the spawn protection it would be big hit at our server. People were whining cuz they were getting naded/shot while in the spawn room

The players spawn in the back room of the house, so I can't see them getting shot in there as there is spawn protection from entering, if people are shooting rifle nades into the houses then I don't know what to say other then not very sportsmanlike conduct on their behalf.
