Static, useable MG42?

Hey guys,

after the search function only gave me results about automatic machineguns for spawn protection and such, I hope you can help me with this.

I wonder whether it could be possible to install useable MGs, for instance within bunkers or other fortifications. They should be player-controlled, so any class could use these MGs in their fixed positions.

After the func_tank entity was deleted from the fgd as many other useful entities for no apparent reason, I've got no clue where to start with.

It shouldn't be too hard to do, should it?

Cheers & thanks in advance,

Albatros

lo there Fleas, long time no see!

Try aosclan.org ;).

Yeah, I know it would be a cool feature, but I don't know about the technical possibility of getting it to work!

Cheers,

I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out. never made it work. this is the only thing that may work:

forcibly equip players with an MG when they approach a prop_dynamic of an MG (and make the prop_dynamic MG disappear). better yet, use a func_button instead of a trigger to initiate the sequence. this part is easy, of course.
when the players unmount the MG and move out of the designated area, you can simply remove all of their weapons.

of course, this isn't very friendly to the players. what you may want to look into is the 'trigger_remove' entity, maybe it can allow you to remove MG's. you will probably need to use it in conjunction with filter_ entities. beware, this entity easily crashes the game.

these may be your only options. and I doubt whether the trigger_remove entity is of any use. I think the 'forcible equipping and removal' of the MG can be quite reasonable, you can always give the players a pistol as they exit their MG post.

Hey irate_pirate,

thanks a lot for the input, sounds pretty interesting.

I might have another idea - I'll try it out and post the results in here later!

Cheers,

Alb
