For all the dod_airfield fans, new version of dod_airfield_HQ is in the works.

It's not a remake, newly designed with unique game play.

Cheers, Kurt

Hrm, I'm not liking this new trend of [started] threads. Perhaps only post if you have something actually done, otherwise many threads will pop up of newb mappers having a go at something then giving up shortly after (happens all too often)

Hi Ca-Chick-Soup,

I can see your point as some people might abuse the matter, my intension is good communication to the mapping community so we are well informed on who is doing what so we don’t duplicate similar maps and efforts.

Also many gaming community and server admin can provide input and contributing to the map making too.

Best regards,

Kurt

Hi,

I was thinking the same, @ Ca-Chicken-Soup.

But now after some thinking I guess it's probably the best way for maps that fall into the classification of remakes.

A [WIP]-Thread might indicate a first start on a project or some brainstorming... and it might be overread easily, but a [started] thread usually shows that someone has started to seriously begin work on a classic map which makes it kind of unique - "Work in Progress" probably covers too much substance to suit every project well.

Also I thought that maybe there should be some divergence between remakes of classic maps and the presentation of something new, and I guess using the [started] tag isn't the worst way to do something in this way.

Besides this - good news Kurt, I enjoy playing your creations, and a remake of airfield really gets me excited :D.

Best regards,

Albatros

albatros, from what your saying [started] and [wip] mean the same thing, except that [started] ius for REMAKES? there no poin, just make a WIP thread and toss the name and REMAKE at the end of it. (BTW... did you get 3.1 working? pm me to not hijack the thread)

on-topic: (somewhat)
albatros, he said it isnt a remake :-P

Including a pic and changing the title to WIP will fix all.

:)

Heya PanFrie,

Could work aswell. Though it doesn't except it other - plus, there's a point where a subject line ends, so "[WIP] DoD_Avalanche_Remake_B1 would probably be a bit out of place and confusing aswell.

Also, if we look at the past and relate the tendancy of remakes to the actual effect in the forums, it seems to be the case that we have a lot of remakes being started just in this week - won't be like that for all the time, so the "problematic" effect of the [started] threads if there is any at all will be neglictable.

(BTW... did you get 3.1 working? pm me to not hijack the thread)

Argh argh argh and argh - no I didn't. I have to find my old Hl1 Key, which must be hidden somewhere in my old HL1 Installations. I'll check for my old Cds and PCs later tomorrow or at least within the next week - thanks anyway, I know it musta been a lot of work :).

And yus, he said it's not a remake - I think he said that to make clear that he's not gonna make a 1 : 1 copy of a previous version. Still it's an entirely new dod_airfield, thus I guess he was right choosing the [started] tag.

Cheers,

Albatros

Wow I didn’t expect my post will cause so much problem here… eh

I posted here looking for input and feedback while I can integrate into the map, otherwise when the map is almost complete then it’s hard to change things around. Albatros is correct the new dod_airfield_head quarter is completely newly designed map, has nothing from the previous version.

Anyways I’m asking for the guys are running dod_airfield_b5 and dod_airfield_rc2 for feedback and suggestions. What is working and what I should keeping in mind not to do again? No point posting IMG for guys to trash the map, when the time is right and I’m ready then I will let the cat out the bag.

It would be nice to see some support from peers, after all this is official DOD map site right? Our focus should be on the DOD gaming community.

Have a nice day!!!

Kurt

Download Crafty by Nem (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=45) , a half life bsp/model viewer.

Then you can just download the old dod maps and look at the maps, textures and all.

Its not just your post, its just been a rising trend the last couple months.

I will admit i get pretty disappointed when i go to a thread announcing a new project and there's no screens or overviews or anything.

but since your asking for some feedback:

I have played airfield a few times, and i dont like how you can get sniped from super far away right as you leave the spawn. perhaps some paths and such leading to the airfield kinda like flugplatz from 1.3. Also, i would suggest using the airplane models that i think both surgeon and ranson have made. brushwork planes look kinda silly imho.

There is a stuck thread in this forum to post your new projects. Everyone should use this one, as it was made for the single purpose of simplicity. I'll start closing down new [started] threads if this is going to be such a problem.

I personally don't bother reading them unless they have the [preview] mention, which in my book was the usual thing to do when posting WIP screens.

Let's just stick to this one stuck thread, we can all find what we want in there.

Yeah, this has got to stop

[started] petition against "[started]" threads

I think everyone's got the point by now. Let's get back on topic and offer Kurt some insight on his map, or this thread will be useless and closed.
