Well, painted some wood with the photoshop paint brush, added a bunch of details and fine drawed alot of fibres to get my base here. the fore wood and such hasnt been done yet. the render is 0selfillum so lightning still to come.

i need help on how much fibres, what color and glossyness [im not weapon nor ww2 expert] and offcourse the metal when that comes.

That looks pretty good! Although, the metal, not the bolt, look a little too dark.

Rosa Jonas

Well, i know kim and i also know his skins isnt the most realistic. ive collected large amounts of refs now so imma try my best. to see whats what on the diffuse map all needed is to manage uvwmaps.

im lightning the wood atm, posting a pic later.

its looking good so far, the only gun it could realisticly replace without having to change the team around is the springfield, if you put a scope on it
:D

Seen there, i think imma do two versions of the wood color. one yellow (the yellows look the nicest imo) and one red/orange/brown quite strong which is how my mental picture of a mosin is.

started lightning the wood, heres a yellow stock.

click me (http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/871/rendermq6.png)

lights a wip, and nothings been edged nor grunged really except the indent on the stock.

I agree with you with the yellow looking nicer, I always choose that one over the red one in RO.

Good start my friend.

as to what it can replace, the Mosin Nagant was a 5-shot stripper-clip fed weapon, so technically it could replace either the springfield or K98, but the most obvious replacement of choice would be the non-scope version of the Kar98k (german rifleman).

Rosa Jonas
01-07-2007, 02:15 PM
Yeah, its an allied rifle still if americans fight in normandy or france i dont see how they would get em. imo it would make more sense if germans in the end of the war got some but its not relevant.

im thinking springfield, ill just model the scope a nagant uses IF they use (dont remember) a compile for the kar98 if it gers ingame is ofcourse in place.

also if this is done for the springfield w/ a scope there a bit of an incetive for russian allied weapons and player models, the yellow looks much better gd job

EDIT//

for refs on scope

Would it be possible to replace the Springfield with this in-game? Would it be legit?

update, still a wip. hows the wood and metal coming?

E/

on the render the highlights seem different on top, i assure you tho that its just the angle, they look the same from top and most views.

redid the metal in a fashion thatll fit better ingame, going to finish the wood next. the yellow will have some brown/red spots and both woods will be quite grunged.

another their not allowed but the american player skin can i beleive could be quite easily changed into a russian style skin.

added color to metal, which should fit the dods engine well, also edited the woods color and started grunging the yellow wood. the same grunge is atm on the red, wont look just like now tho.

E;

test compile for kar98k is completed, provided by jamesm-, prolly get ingames relatively soon.

Dude that wood just looks so awsome!
I think I have never seen such perfect wood skin job.
It's one seamless texture, keep it up!

yeah the wood does look good especially for a hand painted job. Good start on the metal too, keep going. My first piece of metal looked like stone!

The FOV looks absolutely horrible on that model. It reminds me of those awful BF1942 rifles... I guess the only thing to do is stretch the model out a bit, maybe make it a bit bigger?

The wood looks great though, keep it up.

Rosa Jonas

whats a FOV?

thanks for all compliments, heres that wood brutal.

also animations, there will be a set made, ive made a draft (not sure if the hand pose will be used or not) of what id like, if theres something wrong let me know.

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9338/anim1hr4.gif

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/1867/mosinzs1.gif here something i made for fun and also to make whoever animates it know how the bolt functions.

E/

on the animation gif, the bolt rebound motion has the arrows pointing the wrong direction. :Y

FOV = Field Of Vision/View

(and your current one is fine. it perfectly matches with the other DOD:S models. there are a lot of people disgruntled about the DOD:S FOV - I tend to ignore them)

Rosa Jonas
01-09-2007, 07:26 PM
Oh, well, thats just a test compile on default animations, wont have those. dont know how itll look but i suppose we want to have them showing most of the bolt instead of all the wood and such, the bolt alone has been mapped on two 2048 :D wont use that much but i can basically make them as sharp as it gets.

Guyver
01-10-2007, 11:05 PM
It'll have custom animations? Man, I hope it turns out ok. I've seen very few custom models that have custom animations for DoD:S. Someone put the default Carbine on custom animations...didn't turn out too well, because it wouldn't let you use custom hands/skins with it.

Just a heads up, albeit a minor one: The bolt doesn't function quite like that. On closing the bolt, the firing pin (the rear part of the bolt) stays out a bit rearward and when firing, slams forward.

Editor321
01-12-2007, 06:16 PM
Thats true about the operation of the bolt, but to do it properly would be the use of another bone which may be annoying. I don't think you will get the chance to really notice ingame too much anyway :)

Rosa Jonas
01-12-2007, 06:31 PM
yeh u you guys are right, but i was just showing off that not the whole bolt moved :/, anyways im quite ill (sick atm) so iono if ill get to work too much tomorrow.

You would notice it considering the defualt bolt action rifles have it somewhat correctly.

Rosa Jonas
01-13-2007, 06:07 PM
No, lol im not completely new to all of this, i know about wrist fixes and animations ect. theres no problem :/

oh btw, ill finish this some day when i get better.
