[WIP] Kar98k - Coyote/Forral Hybrid

Just a little project I've been working on - it incorporates Forral's woods (with some touch-ups for authenticy) with Coyote's K98 Sniper metal. I thought it came up rather well and am likely to release it, so take a look.

I'm currently investigating into phong effects for this. These pictures use Forral's phong map, but I'm looking into perhaps harnessing another one. I did try to edit Forral's one so it came off to a similar effect to the one on Coyote's Garand, but that was not entirely successful - unless you happen to like guns that look like they've been frozen in the Arctic Circle for the last four years. A world model will be included.

Reason why my effects aren't that good for the most part, although I think the above picture looks quite nice:

Any advice on how to sort out my phong effects to reduce the shineyness on the wood to something akin to Coyote's Garand would be appreciated.

Hm, the last screenshot looks good.
I shows some good shinyness.
But need to see more detailed screens to give more comment.

actually, I'm with Beserker on this one, the last one really looked the most to me like a blued or laquered weapon, which all K98's were.

Last one is mostly still Forral's metal, particularly around the bit-where-you-put-the-clip-in. I can't really release that, as its not much changed from Forral's original. The same phong effect in the last one is still mostly carried off in my phong map, it just the effect on the in direct light screws up the rest.

I'm investigating Something|Wicked's K98 phong map: that includes the wood (unless I've not installed it properly, cause none of the others do) and toned down a bit I think we have a winner. I'll post some piccies of it on my skin later. Just for contrast I'll also give Forral's standard phong map a run through on the skin, see how that comes up.

well I'll let you in on a little hint: My sniper skin was just a simple reskin of the default skin. It was done very quickly as it was simply a test of a new technique I was doing (primarily, the sniper scope lens) which I decided to release to show other skinners how I did it. I even mentioned this in the release in these forums ;) so basically it is just the default skin tweaked quite a bit, but I really didn't draw anything
