Well i feel kind of silly posting another snow camo with all the other people doing one right now but i got bored last night and started to do my first player skin and came up with what lyes below

The mask and camo texture are modified textiles i made from the stock urban camo cs skin, everything else is just a recolor of the stock dod skin

I am not going for realism on this one just want to make something that looks good for an upcoming snow map i will most likely start soon

Anyway i still need to fix some seams, do a bit more recoloring and match the pockets to the camo, i will most likely leave the collier the color it is to look like sort of an undercoat and i might make the pants wool but please post your comments on the result thus far

it looks good m8 nice colouring may i suggest changing the boots. IT does look good if only there was a way to only use snow models on snow maps and normal ones on normal maps?

There is and that is what i plan to do

It will load the custom skin at load of my map then load the stock ones on all other maps

I already tested it and it works perfectly

I actually used that method for the custom content in my maps hill_classic and fuhrung for my custom phonged skins on static props and win music

Anything you embed into a .bsp will only load when the map does and unload on map change, thats all you have to do

So it's server side and built into the map. Any way to do it client side?

The ability to do it client side would open up so many possibilities: player skins, arm skins, weapon models and so on!

No no no, it is clientside, all skins are clientside

A client can not join a server running the map unless they have the map on their machine, most servers download the map to the clients if they dont have it

No offense here, but as you can imagine I still like the ability to make my own skins for maps :D

It would be really cool if the community in general could set up some sort of universally recognized map standard for winter/desert skins folder placement. That way users could choose the winter skin they liked best, and any custom mappers that wanted to include winter skins could simply look to the forums to find the standard path that evryone is using.

It really could work, and would be a great addition to a great game.

What I mean is that I can't edit a file that links to Colmar and run some winter SS skins. It cannot be used with the default maps but can be embedded into custom maps. Its not a case of "I want Rangers in Donner, and I think I'll use some Panzergrenadiers in Anvil, so I'll just add this line into a file here and it'll work."

Anyone have more info on embedding skins into a map?

Can't you use Mani to allow a choice for the use of skins?

Upon joining server it asks:

Skins?
1. Standard
2. Something else

Also, some servers allow 'admin skins' in that admin on the server ident'd to mani have different helmets and shoulder ranks.

I believe the helmet has something like =A= on it (for Admin)..

If that is true, then you could simply create a .cfg for each map and use that in relation with mani to only allow perhaps (on a snow map) the choice of standard or the 'snow camo' version.

But I would like to know how to do it without Mani. I don't use mani, or beetle's.

but this only works if the player has no custom skins in place for that particular model, right?
