Why I don't allow FPSBanana

I have a lot of people asking to use my skins for their own reskin. Of course anyone and everyone has full permission to do this, the only thing I have ever asked is you mention me in the readme that is packaged with the file. Lately I have put a new stipulation: Cannot be posted at FPSBanana.com

I get many questions about the last requirement. The bottom line is that website is a joke that just keeps getting worse. They'll vote anything into expert class as long as you're their buddy.

http://www.fpsbanana.com/skins/18653
BUT if you don't "credit Valve", if you were to try and critique' the above skin properly (giant dung heap), if you even try to ask simple questions about submission rules....... little forum pundits will harass you and your submissions endlessly. And don't EVEN try and vote a skin less than a "7" based on actual skill - if you don't change it (after receiving a verbal backlash from all the skinner's friends) - the forum admins will.

So that's my reason. My work does not belong on that website. Call me petty, childish, fat, whatever you want :D

FPSB is a damn scumhole of a community. Guyver knows my prejudicial hate against all of those morons. That sight should have been shut down, locked up, and the key thrown away for all the illegal, stolen, and downright disgraceful work that came from it.

(This is TheAmerican from CDG btw.)

I remembered I had an account here from a long time ago. I kept typing in my CDG name thinking that was it, but then I remembered I registered here in my old name before I went by my more recognisable alias.

Well, I must be completely honest with you I'm not too impressed with CDG either. I just made 3 posts, I followed the forums rules to the letter, and then was basically harassed about:
The way I posted credits
The way I used EXE's instead of ZIP's
In less than 12 hours they had already left me with a bad tatse in my mouth and I didn't see things getting better, so I removed all content from CDG as well. I will not be returning.

They had a reason for shunning those who used .exe instead of .zips. Several skins had viruses embedded in the file, causing some huge controversy. In general, l would prefer zips over exe just so l can tell whether or not l would want a particular part of the skin. FPS Banana is a crap site, but it's basically the only highly active skin site around. CS:S websites that l would usually go to stopped having updates for months, and others are non existent.

Well that's fine and dandy, but it's no excuse for bad behavior. If posting ZIP's is so darn preferred, don't you think that it should be mentioned in the "official" sticky about posting rules? This is exactly my point. I made no mistakes. I followed the rules flawlessly. If there is somehting you'd like me to adhere to that was NOT written in the official rules, ask me. I will probably comply. Do not be an ass and start harassing me over some unwritten "rule" that I could not have possibly forseen by reading the official rules. This is exactly the same thing that happened over at FPSBanana. Out of hundreds of forums I have subscribed to over the years, and at least dozens upon dozens of gaming mod forums, these are the only two I have had trouble with when it came to posting rules

EDIT:
After re-reading my above post, it occured to me that the average attitude of CS:S players almost exactly matches the attitude I've run into on both FPSB and CDG, the same attitude that turned me off of playing CS (I played CS before DOD) and has kept me away from CS:S. I guess I should not, after all, be surprised that forums that cater to CS:S would also be full of little kids with likewise dispositions.

I have to agree with you whole-heartedly about FPSB Coyote.

Over CDG, while there are some really good modellers and skinners over there, there's something about the nature of the place that just makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't know what it is precisely, but for example, the amount of consistent and unnecessary swearing to me just seems totally immature and unjustified.

You didn't follow the rules to the letter. You posted:

??????????????

Okaaaayyyy.........

Credits: Wile E Coyote

I thought that putting the credits in the thread title would be a big enough for you to see. I read the rules thoroughly before posting; it simply said "credits", it did NOT give a preferred format for posting those credits.
http://www.cdg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21067

You didn't read the Sticky in the Source Releases.

May I bring your attention to the Rules sticky in this forum

Please be reminded of the following.
Releases must include:

* A download link
* Full credits in first post
* Image in first post
* Name of the weapon it replaces in first post
* Game tag (e.g. [CS:S]) in title of thread.

We shall start clamping down if the rules are not followed.

CDG Requires that Valve also be in the credits. We weren't treating you bad, you had a hissy fit, removed all your releases and replaced them with:

REMOVED BY AUTHOR DUE TO FORUM HARASSMENT

and left. We didn't harass you. Your releases were welcomed, but the FPSB freaks that seemed to wander onto our boards complained about the .exe, which for one, I know doesn't contain viruses because I download and use a majority of your stuff. They are just pathetic and complain about every little thing like they do back at FPSB.

If you havn't noticed, strangemodul3, flamecsm101boy, and Crazy Asian256 are all FPSB morons who sort of aren't to well liked on our board. You make them seem to represent our whole Community.

Who would blame you? Half the people there that actually contribute have nothing on their minds but themselves. Everyone is so arrogant there, and then you have idiot forum mods that will delete your posts for being "unfriendly" when the person it was directed is clearly someone you know, they say they try to stay a "clean" and friendly site but all that comes from there is garbage.

these are the rules - the only rules - posted under the stickies for the Source Release Forum on that website

I would like you to point out where it says you have to credit Valve, where it says you must put all the info in the "body" of the first thread, and where ZIP files are preffered. You can't, because it doesn't. I fully admit I probably had a flashback to FPSBanana, because honestly it was reminding me very much of the treatment I received there, and as so perhaps my reactions were a bit quick and harsh. Accusing someone of breaking forum rules that are not even posted IS harassment. If people had just simply pointed out that were a couple of preffered posting ettiquette things not explicitly mentioned in the rules - no problem. But instead I was immediately jumped on as blatently ignoring forum rules and possibly spreading harmful software.

You cannot say I violated any rules as posted in the forum "sticky". No one seems to be willing to recognize that if you are going to be so precise about how stuff is posted, your rules need to be just as precise. And it is that attitude, that inflexibility, that led me to close down any attempt to be part of that community.

To this end, I must apologize. I understand what you are saying. As I said previous, this was the same exact treatment I received at *the other unmentionable website* and I feel that yes, I may have indeed unfairly drew the conclusion that the majority of posters were of this caliber, and that this was all I could expect in the future.

FULL Credits. Which means Valve too. They modelled the weapon, which means it's theirs, which means they have to be acknowledged as making it. It's simple logic. Not being a dick to you, but that's the forum rules.

it says full credits wile... not just you credits... and it shoudnt be in the title, you are being a drama queen arguing about FPSBANANA for crying out loud... it kinda seems stupid to even have an argument about fpsb.

and incase you dont know what FULL is:
FULL: complete; entire; maximum; EXAMPLE: a full supply of food for a three-day hike.

someone saying that you should credit valve isnt harassing you either. hell the skin is a recolor not a full reskin... im going to have to ditto on splinters post
