I'd like to draw your attention over to CDG for this decent BAR model:

Includes a properly mirrored (a rarity amongst these CSS modellers) world model.

Well I know I'm picky when it comes to custom models.... I must fully admit I've not been too thrilled with Soul Slayer's previous creations, they tend to be way too laden with unecessary polygons and incorrectly proportioned, but for accuracy purposes this is much better than his previous creations. This one really does look like a faithful representation of the real weapon. I'll have too see later how much more polygons it's eating up, if any. The best thing I can say, without having actually installed the model yet, is that he got the hand to compile correctly, which speaks volumes about his abilities.

As for the skin, ladies and gents, meet Twinke Masta, one of only 2 weapon skinners I truly bow down to. Twinke normally does CS stuff (this BAR was actually done for CS) but his work is second to none. It is Twinke and eSkwaad's skins that I have always used as the standard for "excellence" when trying to evaluate my own skins.

EDIT:
taking a quick look at it I notice it is skin only, no normal map or phong shader. Perhaps if I can get ahold of them (they notoriously ignore people) and get permission, I, or someone, can create this at a later date a re-release it.

It does look pretty amazing from what I've seen. I'm not one for custom weapon or weapon sounds, but this looks nice enough that I will be using.

Love soulslayers work. i am going to have to disagree with almost everything you say there wile. i find that soulslayer is making models for looks not necessarily to be compiled for games. Also you should really look at more skinners because frankly there are some really good ones compared to 2.... Such as Kimono, Twinke, Wannabe, Thor, Teddy (My favorite) ....... i could name probably 30 more :P and those are only in the hl2 community.

I think this BAR is nicely done and is probably the best release for the mod. Mainly because its completely different other than animations.

And the fact that skinning something is much harder than reskinning something which is pretty much the norm here due to the lack of custom models.

as well for the phong i personally think it would not work due to the fact its skinned on lighting.

Good release tho

This is the best bar ever, best model and skin i've seen for dod s yet to be honest. Man, if all the weapons looked like this...my gawd. Actually looks like a weapon instead of a little plastic toy.

Well I've tried it in-game, and gotta say it is the best BAR you are gonna find. This is also the first model I've seen Soul-Slayer make that is on-par with the default. I can really find nothing wrong.

I'm currently working on a bumpmap and stuff for it. Not sure yet if I should go with a reflective shadermap OR phong shadermap. Both have their advantages.

Do an all-encompassing phong map. They have a greater overall effect than alpha mapping, as you notice (and marvel at) their presence more often.

Yes, but they do not reflect in shadowed, darkened areas, which just happens to be when and where you usually notice something has some shiny spots to it.

I've been using for a while, and I must say this is probably the best custom replacement I have ever used. it looks absolutly stunning ingame. the textures are so well done it almost looks like its normal mapped in game. i cant say enough about how nice it looks in game.

You're probably in the IP range of a person who was banned.

Unless Soul Slayer uploads it to FileFront or something..you're stuck.

Someone could e-mail it to you or host it.
