Ok let's try this again.. (Fixed rc1 and changed name to rc2 to stop any confusion)

Right it's been sitting around for a while just waiting for a new skybox, so I whipped one up and here it is all ready to go.

Server helpers

Res file is included in download above. (It hasn't been tested but it should work).

Due to Vigilance's size I suggest bzipping the .bsp as it cuts the 48mb file to 22.83 MB.

Hello,we have your very great map on our server but I have a problem with the icon_obj_kuelwagen. On Anvil2 the background is black whereas in Vigilance_rc2 it is white but the "icone object" have already the same name. So can you give to it an other name to the "icone object" ? thank for answering

It appears the .res file is not working correctly as I had hoped. Perhaps you could try and make one yourself so the files would download correctly.

That is a problem I did not anticipate, I am sorry but I cannot change it now.

Ran through and the map is always getting better. It has cleaner, more realistic building interiors.

I noticed a seam on the allied left side of the ravine:

I noticed a detail that is cut a little bit short of the displacement:

This is something that bothered me in previous versions and mentioning it slipped my mind. The snowy buildup you have around buildings is awesome... but this doesn't make sense. The snow melts away and you've got a door that's stuck inside a dirt mound:

My recommendations for the skybox is to do whatever possible to unify it with the rest of the map. Those pine tree cards that you had worked well before. I also think that the nature of your new mountains would support the idea of extending the actual world geometry portion outward. I think argentan and kalt are perfect examples. Also there's got to be some skybox fog. I used the console command to throw in some and I think it helped:

if you could also fix the icone thingy, that'd be great (just cause I run Anvil2 as well and that's the only reason why I haven't upgraded to this version of vigilance yet :D)

This map is outstanding, Ive never seen a better snow map done. IMO it rivals dod_kalt. I wish the Valve Company would sign you on. Nice work.

And sorry Thanatos, but I just can't replace it without running a whole new version. Funny though, Luebeck does the same thing with the bridge icon, it shows in all official maps with bridges :p But does it really matter in the mean time? It's just a slight visual discrepancy that will in time be fixed.

Making sure the custom content is in a custom obj_icons folder when making the map would definitely stop this happening.

have purple textures for icons .. is there anyway around it , ie move icons to different folder and amend .res files, or does it just not work

Ca-Chicken-Soup (what is the story behind that heh? ;) ) beautiful piece of work thanks. I forgot to post here the day you released this update. I have it running on our custom map server.

Most updates for most maps are minor but in this... you load it up and are like.. "WOOAH". That is exactly what most people who play it say. Asthetically very pretty and im not even sure that the skybox is ugly as ye said heh. The layout of the map is great as ever and i love that each time i play i can discover something that i hadnt noticed before.

Download the .rar file and extract it using folder names turned on. It should extract the obj icons to the right directory.

sorry i see the problem, i think the slashes are the wrong way round in the .res file for 'nix

should be

"materials/sprites/obj_icons/icon_obj_beercart_axis.vtf" "file"

believe that will work fine on unix or windows


Has anyone mirrored this ? , im downloading again from Filefront to make sure i have the correct version, but getting a terrifying 7kbs :) , its like being 56k all over again.

PS great map again, Vigilance had become on of the custom favourites on our server for quite a while, the new version is even better
