Looks great man I will upload it to our server today and we will test it tonight thanks !

You really should create a .res for your map for server admins so all the other content will download correctly . The server will only dowload the .bsp without a .res

No you have no .res file, you only include a dod_calais_rc1.lst which I never seen before and does not seem to work. I d\l the one with a .res file. Just FYI, please use .res and not .lst.

Will be running @ theGamerPlanet.com's server.

I will have a bz2 file for those later. Doing homework ATM.

Looks like a great map.

Map has alot of potential, looks great. However, map size is currently too large. The BSP alone is over 80 megs, even compressed to BZ2 and on a fast re-direct, people are not going to wait around for the download.

My suggestion, please clean up the map and eliminate anything that isnt absolutely necessary. Then compile the map so everything that is needed is contained in the BSP itself. The way you have it now, not only is it a bit of a nightmare for admins to setup on the server, but it just involves too much downloading.

As I said, map really looks great, but for me, I will either wait for the next version, or wait to see if someone cleans it up on your behalf. As it sits now, I simply wont run it on my server, wish I could. Also, I dont see how this could be labeled as a release candidate. With the filesize being that large, and the files not being combined correctly, IMO this map is more like a B2 or B3 stage release. Needs some work my man. If you put into it that which it really needs, youll have a real winner. Looks almost like a stock map.

Please take the time to correct these problems, I think the map merits the time.

Thanks for sharing...

The only java scripts that run are the ones you authorize. Been running Firfox for 2 years now with this Noscript extension

Negative!

Total time:
download map from DOD forums
Install to my PC
Take 6 screenshots, resize to 800x600 and 160x120 each
Make bzip2
Make res file
Make self installer
Upload to SunLit Games Library (http://www.sunlitgames.net/index.php?module=ExDownloads&cid=2[/url)
Write review
Upload to game and web servers
Reboot game servers
Post news article on SunLits and mirror link on DOD Forums
Time : 20 minutes on the outside
Time for mapper to create : months!
Its a great trade off

As Rosie wrote: Had to edit it a bit...

download map from DOD forums -- Of course
Install to my PC -- Only if you need to, I prefer to redownload it off my redirect to make sure all works properly
Take 6 screenshots, resize to 800x600 and 160x120 each -- not necessary
Make bzip2 -- Of course
Make res file -- shouldnt need to
Make self installer -- not only not necessary, but quite irritating as well, I wont DL self installers
Upload to SunLit Games -- Only if you wish to provide a mirror (has nothing to do with server admin'ing)
Write review -- not necessary, but feedback is a good thing
Upload to game and web servers -- my point exactly, my DSL upload is only 40kbs, so 80+ MEGS to the game server and then the bzip file to the redirect is VERY time consuming
Reboot game servers -- not necessary
Post news article on SunLits and mirror link on DOD Forums -- falls back to the feedback thing
Time : 20 minutes on the outside -- you must have an uber uplink
Time for mapper to create : months! --agreed, so 4 1/2 more minutes to Pakrat it together shouldnt be too much to ask.

And still with all this, I go back and repeat myself, having to do all that is way too much work, especially when most people are going to abort during the download. Most players will not want to wait for a download of this size, thats all there is to it. If the mapper follows my advice, trims some fat from the map, AND zips it all into one nice tidy little bsp file, we the admins that run the servers will not only be more apt to run the map, but will eagerly do so. Having run a DoD Source server since the day it was released, Im well aware of what is involved in adding maps to a rotation and having it run on a server. However, the mapper may well not. The mapper needs to see it from the viewpoint of those that will be using his creation. What does it take for an admin to put it on the server, and are the players willing to download it and play the map.

Just as the mapper should see the admins point of view, the admin should see the players point of view. Is the player willing to wait for long downloads. More often then not, they will not. Alot of popular servers out there run stock maps still. Why? No download time. Anyone wishing to make a map, has to take all things into consideration. FPS, size, playability, etc etc etc. Not all of us have super duper fast uplink where we can dump 120 megs to our servers in only a few minutes.

This is my opinion, it still stands. The map looks very sweet, but until or unless the size is reduced, and the map cleaned up, it will not be running on my server. My server. My choice. My opinion. :) And I truly hope the mapper does take the time to reduce the file size. Its really my only real gripe at the moment with the map. :(

3xicut0r:
Making a res file is easy
You can add the list of files in Notepad and save as mapname.res file,
OR use a program to do so
Download resMaker (http://www.sunlitgames.net/index.php?module=ExDownloads&func=details&fid=88)
You need to have Windows .NetFramework (http://www.sunlitgames.net/index.php?module=ExDownloads&func=details&fid=89) version 1.0 or higher installed.

You need to have all the files laid out in a folder first with the correct structure, then double click in the resMaker.exe file and browse to the directory with your folders and files. Click on "Create .RES file"
It adds the res file to the map folder.

So the format for your map dod_calais_rc1.res as follows:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"resources"
{
"scripts/soundscapes_dod_calais_rc1.txt" "file"
"resource/maphtml/calais.css" "file"
"resource/maphtml/dod_calais_rc1_english.html" "file"
"resource/maphtml/dod_calais_rc1_german.html" "file"
"resource/overviews/dod_calais_rc1.txt" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/bg_texture.jpg" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/bg_texture.vtf" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calaisfactory.jpg" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calaisfactory.vtf" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calaisunderpass.jpg" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calaisunderpass.vtf" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calais_ruedeville.jpg" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calais_ruedeville.vtf" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calais_ruin.jpg" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calais_ruin.vtf" "file"
"resource/maphtml/images/dod_calais_tsen.jpg" "file"
}

You can download the bzip2 (windows) (http://www.sunlitgames.net/index.php?module=ExDownloads&func=details&fid=91) program and make your own :)

For linux version you will need to go to their home site (http://www.bzip.org/downloads.html).

Really good map, great work,

I think you need to reduce the capture flag time because it's too long, moreover the allied first flag is more protect/secure than the axis first, balance this !

I think he means that he could directly dl the bzip2 file on server from your site ;)

If you provide directly bzip2/zip/rar the way is:
connect to root
wget link-to-file
copy to map-directory and maybe bzip2 for fast-dl

If you provide just self-installer the way is:
download to pc
extract to local pc
make bzip2/rar/zip
upload with small bandwith to server (takes much time)
extract to map-directory and maybe bzip2 for fast-dl

Very nice highly detailed and optimised map, its also has good gameplay after you have played it a few times to get used to it.

My only criticism is its size, even when bzip2'ed to 35mb on a fast downloadurl. It makes it hard for server admins to keep a full server, as many clients will not wait to download the map.

IMHO a custom map will be more successful if its 5-15mb in size after being bzip2'ed.

Quite a challenge, to retain an high level of detail, high FPS and have appealing gameplay, apart from that its a very enjoyable map to play.

Great map, looks fantastic. The level of detail is amazing. I love the ambient sound. I ran through it and I have a few comments:

Is that ladder with the cage by Rue supposed to climbable?
caged ladder (http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4705/dodcalaisrc10003vk3.jpg)

In this sewer, could you raise the ceiling or lower the debris pile? A player can get caught between the top of the ladder and the ceiling (if they don't press up).
sewer (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7240/dodcalaisrc10000po0.jpg)

These steps look way too bright.

This chimney looks too bright.
bright chimney (http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/2872/dodcalaisrc10001lx8.jpg)

Could you add some player clips around this stuff?
debris (http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/7532/dodcalaisrc10004cg7.jpg)
debris (http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4816/dodcalaisrc10005jb2.jpg)

While I haven't played on a server yet, the Allies 1st flag looks a little too difficult for the Axis to cap.

Also, with a map so big, a 5th flag may be nice, although I don't know where you could put it.

Concerning the size, it IS the biggest BSP file I've seen, but it's only 11MB bigger than dijon_rc2 was.

I have some suggestions for cutting down the size. I think you'll need to download Pakrat (http://www.geocities.com/cofrdrbob/pakrat.html) if you haven't already.

You could lose 23MB if you removed the Citroen and the destroyed US jeep(s).
citroen (http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/8529/dodcalaisrc10006ga4.jpg)
destroyed US jeep (http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/6136/dodcalaisrc10007gf1.jpg)

Definitely delete the citroen_snow.vtf and citroen_war.vtf files since I didn't see your map use those textures. Those take up 10.6MB right there.

I think the map is great. I hope to see it on alot of servers in the future.
