Looking good so far.

feels overly boxy and compact for me but nice start altogether.

Im sure he is working off ref art. So i doubt that it could be as you said it "boxy". Guns are quite simple designs contructed from primitive shapes so they arn't terribly difficult to make.

do you mean reference pictures? "ref art" is also "concept art" and that really contradicts what you are saying.

easily said than done. it is boxy modelling wise but i'm sure it wouldn't be so very noticeable once smoothing is applied. but most importantly, it looks way compact for the thompson. stretch it out some, 123.

its 456 polies so far. And I agree it does look to compact. I think the for grip needs to be longer.

Well my interpretation of refence art is a front side and top pictures of the subject matter you are working off. A model sheet for instance is totally different from concept art, as it is an image generated for general colour schemes, proportions and visual style of the subject matter. So, i am not contradicting myself at all, as they are two different, although related, peices of reference.

I was meaning that, guns are easier to construct as compared to organic objects like characters and folaiage for instance.

heh :) Looking good though 123 :) Cant wait to see the unwrap.

^ I don't understand how a real picture of the weapon can be referred to as "art."

um...ok but i don't see any actual relevance in that.

Polies and triangles are 2 different things. triangles are what games use. Polies is any one closed shape, it can be a tri, quad or more.

I think you are counting quads and other odd shapes. If oyu are using max (i think 6 or higher) there is a button on the polygon counter that says "count tris" next to the one that says "count polies"

It just looks more than what you said to be honest.

Im with splinter, real pictures arent ref art, its just "reference images"...

Could you make a version with a round clip so the M1.

well seriously the NICE thing about that website is that they actually name the pictures what really are - MP40, Bren, etc. That is why this website comes up on everybody's internet searches :)

Another good resource is to find collector's forums for the partcular weapon you are skinning. Lot's of good ref pics in there usually

The actual M1 thompson couldn't accept a drum mag. That ref image you linked to is a plastic fake. They used two or 3 of those in "Kung Fu Hussle" if you ever watched it, lol.

You'd need a whole new thompson model to make historical sense with a drum mag.
