helmet
how about an add on to the german sniper's helmet? a net+grass
the grass sprites are already present in game...there's grass, the vines, and some other types of stuff.

Unfortunately, young Skywalker, the Source does not work in those ways.
Unless someone proves me wrong (and I would be happy if they did), attempting this might cause model consistency errors.
darn model consistency. technically, these would just be flat textures but sticking out, isn't that what sprites are?
cause i saw some guys running through grass and it actually moved, how cool would it be to have the grass animated as well?

no, the problem lies in the model itself. You cannot just "attach" textures without re-compiling the model. And that leads to consistency errors.
this limitation in source is pretty bad. so i'll have to get valve to make the model and put it in their next patch :p

meby you could add the grass detailsprites from one of the ground textures to the whole model simply by adding some lines in the vmt ;)

Its not a limitation. Its a conscious decision by Valve to prevent the use of potential cheating player models by forcing everyone to use the same models unless the server does not have "sv_consistency 1" enabled. The same thing exists in CSS and probably HL2DM as well.
couldn't they just limit how big the change is?
i would still like to see this though, even if it wouldn't work in mp
