is it possible to have a small explosion that looks like a mg firing?
or any other way to have a mounted mg shoot enemy who get infront of it

also on my old maps, when i open them since the update, the 3d view is blank and hammer lags. however if i copy the map into a new file its fine.
any 1 else getting this since the update

for some reason everythime you start hammer the 3d view is way of target. Goto View->Center 3d View and you should be fine

or you can use the camera tool in one of the 2d views to bring your 3d view back.

unsure about the mg...

Try putting a camera (one of the tools on the left side bar) in one of the 2D windows. It threw me for a loop also. After you do save, then you'll be good-to-go.

Cheers.

That mg idea is agood one, I've thought about having that as a spawn protection after seeing 1.3's auto defence guns (there's one in avalanche)
Not sure how to pull it off, would have to be some sort of AI as triggers and such would be very difficult to make it look realistic

I did some little tests tongiht. I hope to do more, I don't really have much to show visually though. I took an "Automated scanning MG" approach. Where I have an MG in room and the MG is slowly rotating around in a circle. (The back half of the MG stays still while the front moves so it looks not too bad. The only way to make this look GOOD though would be to make the MG room very dark.) The MG is parented to a train that is circleing on an 8 point circle. N, E, S, and W. points are normal and don;t affect anything. But the other four NW, SW, NE, SE, they activate triggers. So basically long story short. If you are stading approximately in front of the MG you get hit with damage.

Along with a trigger_hurt I have a trigger_multiple which is supposed to make a muzzle flash sprite appear but I've had little luck with that.

This is probably a roundabout way and not too good I'm still learning stuff so I doubt I'll make any breakthroughs here. But I think with some more working into this I could get an MG that points in the general direction of an enemy and then fires (along with muzzle flash, hurting, and sound) so that it seems as if an MG is shooting them up.

If I do somehow make this work well and not be poorly designed I'll put it up for anyone who wants it.

Making slow progress. Right now I ditched the rotating stuff until I had a basic version done. Right now I'm working on a completely static setup. Basically this could guard a hallway where the MG doesn't have to move too much. Without the fine tuning a player in control adds this will always look only so good but if a mapper really wanted they could put a lot of effort to fine tune the system. Anyway what's happening right now.

I have a player model set to prop_dynamic and set him up behind a prom_dynamic MG. So I actually have a guy holding the MG. I like how that came out. I've been unable to get env_sprite to work I'm not sure why, it's bugging me a bit. So in lieu of that, I have a small radius light as a muzzle flash as well as a env_dustpuff set up at the MG's muzzle. As an additional touch I have the MG parented to a train who goes back and forth to simulatate some kind of recoil while firing.

[Edit]
I added sound and that seems to work fine, as well as the trigger_hurt. The turning stuff I imagine will be the most difficult but I'm happy so far. The MG is a little inanimate which is dispointing but maybe I can change that by activating an animation of the prop_dynamics.
