Actually, that is dead-on. The skin on the v_model butt is under-scaled. I didn't really sweat it because you can't see it in-game anyway.
one on the right was the model I used. But the ones that I hav seen at gunshows tend to look like these. To be honest I don't know how many bakelite stocks out there are original and how many are repro; bakelite tends to get brittle with age so the wooden ones seem to have survived in greater numbers.

1200, yeah when it's clean and no carbon gumming up the works. However the darn thingy gets dirty after you pull the trigger 3 times (LOL) so 1100 is generally accepted for normal operation :) What can I say - I had a boring yet interesting childhood.

I had hacked up a bakelite skin for that a while back, but when it came to asking for a host, I recieved an estimated 0 replies, so it was never released... (And I'd rather die than release it on FPSB.) SoulSlayer's model isn't accurate anyway, from what Coyote told me when I was working on it.

That model is as accurate as the default, but just in different places. The placement on the cocking lever is better than the default, however not very noticable. But - and this is the most noticable because it's at the end of the gun - the rear receiver (above the pistol grip) is far too wide. The biggest reason I didn't pop my cork over that model was because I don't like small models with more than 1- 2 skins and really didn't care for the polycount of that model either. Had almost twice the poly as the default, and although you notice them in a close-up screenshot, you will never notice it in-game. But Soul-Slayer's model is very good, it puts almost every other game model (besides DOD:S) to shame.

Nice work as per usual Wile!
-edit-
There is a problem with your installer Wile. It extracts to dod/materials/models/weapons/v_models, instead of v_models/mg42. Same goes for the w.mdl.

Personally I dont like the exe's. I'd rather just install it myself. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you're trying to install anything other then the models, that's just how I've always done it. If you're doing it for noobs..well, they have to learn sometime anyhow.
Please let us know when it's updated..looking forward to trying this one out. Good work as always.
Frag ya on SS later...')

Actually I will agree with you believe it or not. This one was presenting a challange. The problem is that the mechanical pieces inside the feed tray cover are NOT modelled. I had 2 choices; either skin them as flat, which allowed better definition yet was NOT how a real feed tray cover looked when open or skin it as it would really appear if you were looking at it straight-on. I choose the second option.
the problem with the second option is that it tends to make the skin look a bit "photoey", especially when viewed from an angle other than straight-on. But after much testing in-game I came to the conclusion that it is so brief an appearance and after the 3D engine is done processing the skin, all looks fine so I left it as-is for the release.
