Question about sniper scope

I don't know if people would consider this cheating, but I was wondering how I would go about editing the sniper scope for DoD:Source?

I mean when I zoom on either the axis or allies rifles, how can I change it to a crosshair that I like?

I have been searching for about 2 hours, and couldn't come up with anything. So I am posting it here :)

There's two scopes here (http://halflife2.filefront.com/files/Day_of_Defeat_Source/Sprites;6637), and another four at over at DoDCC (http://www.dodcc.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=62#cat). They are only for the K98, although I assume just renaming the files appropriately will allow them to be used with the Springfield.

If you were after something that drastically changes the scope, say for example, like the RO and Hitman Blood Money scopes, it hasn't and probably can't be done.

That is kind of what I was looking for, I have a replacement scope for the axis one already. What I was kind of hoping for though was if I could make something real simple.

Not sure if you can add color to the scopes, the one I have is white, maybe you can only do black and white?

But I would rather just have a simple scope that is just a medium sized circle with a white or black dot in the middle of that.

Do you think it would be possible to make that?

Is no one going to help me out? Anyone have any idea how I could start going about making some of those sniper scopes that other people made?

I can't help you further. I'd suggest posting in the requests section to get people's attention to what you want.

I believe this is the skinning forum? I don't know why you wouldn't beable to help me to figure out how to create a crosshair?

How to convert .bmp to .vtf? How to make a .vmt file? How to get everything to work so I can use my own sniper crosshairs?

What is so hard?

Check the tutorials threads... (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=49207)

It's as simple as google.com too. I don't think anyone is going to give you a step by step process of how to do what your asking for because it's been explained dozens of times already.

I wasn't looking for a step by step process on how to do it. Just something to point me in the right direction.

And I have googled it, but I thought I would get a lot better replys here.

So I'll just figure it out then.

Biggest issue that hasnt been identified is how to make alpha channels work properly in Paintshop. Maybe thats why so few ppl have replied...

So how did other people come out with skins for the sniper on HL2, if no one knows how to do it?

Paintshop? Get a trial version of photoshop, then get the vtf plugin.

Get GCFscape open the dod:s gcf file, extract the scope material files from the materials/sprites/scopes directory.

For the scoped k98 you have
scope_k43_ur.vtf
scope_k43_ul.vtf
scope_k43_lr.vtf
scope_k43_ll.vtf

For the scoped springfield it's
scope_spring_ur.vtf
scope_spring_ul.vtf
scope_spring_lr.vtf
scope_spring_ll.vtf

UR=upper right
UL=upper left
LL=lower left
LR=lower right

They divide them into these 4 sections for some reason i don't know! Just edit each section ALPHA channel. To display the alpha channels, just click WINDOW and select CHANNELS.

To edit them, just paint the areas you want to appear as transparent in-game as Black. Anything in white will be the colour BLACK. Save the files in the appropriate directory.
